Has any one ever looked at the clutch side of these new phazers.... What do you think will happen when you blow a belt. I think that whole piece will blow right off and be smashed to pieces.

When was the last time you saw an 80 hp sled blow an 8dn? I've yet to blow a yamaha belt or see one blow.

when i blew my secondary(riped one of teh ramps off the iner sheve) the belt was bad and too thin and when it grabed it riped a big chunk out of teh belt but didnt blow it a WOT.

o man i have blown belts. I blew a belt in my phazer 500 which only made 49 hp. I find if your clutching is out of alignment say good bye to your belt with a 04 rx-1 my clutching was out with my 04 rx-1 and i guess just the torque was ripping them apart. I am still quite worried about that new side panel.

In the unlikely even that you do blow a belt, I would think that a new side panel is substantially cheaper than a whole new belly pan that's totally exposed in my SXR.

Not to mention a clutch cover and possibly a new hood

Phazers can blow belts, I blew one last year and it wasnt worn out width wise, but very close and all it did was have the outter cloth type thing and little bits of rubber strip off. The phazer 500 makes 63hp, not 49hp. Shes not that bad ;)!

here's a thought keep a eye on your clutch alignment, and your belt wear and you will have piece of mind about blowing a belt......i never have, but i keep an eye on the above mentioned.

Anybody know what material the clutch side panel is made out of? It just might withstand a blown belt.

I am sure they have it made so that it doesn't wreck the side panel any time a belt blows. When designing and testing, they would purposely blow many belts to test it.

Since my first new Yamaha in 1988 I have not shredded a belt much less broken any. Two of my many sleds..... 90 Phazer with 4400mi and 96 600Xt with 3400mi have the Original belt. If you're alignment is that far off you Should notice performance problems ?
