Friend just bought this sled and it is stock. Went riding this weekend and he used most of his oil in 70 miles. Turk said cable is unseated and it was. Took it for a spin yesterday to see if smoke would clear up and it did. It was 37 degrees out with very little snow. First couple passes I might of hit 70-80 mph, speedo does not work. Tach started out at 8000 and started to drop to about 7800. Did not know where this motor should run but I knew it was off. Performance sucked! Turned a corner in a field and she was spinning 9000 and if felt very good. I now know that it should be 83-8600, not sure why it was still happy at 88-9000 but it was. Made another pass and it spun 88-9000 again. Came out of field and hit trail and nailed it and its only spinning 8000 again. Feels fat when it only runs 8000. That makes sense with what temps were and stock jetting. What I don't understand is the runs that it run 88-9000, same day just a few mins earlier. Thought some one might have a idea.
Thanks Bruce
Thanks Bruce
Change inner rivet from a 3.6 gram to a 4.5 gram & get a used RX-1 helix(51/43). Helix is optional but will accelerate harder with it. Sled will run fine at 8900 but your down 5-10 hp. 8400-8600 rpm is the sweet spot. You want to run 142.5 main jets & drop needles 1/2 right thru. A plug change & new belt might help things. New belt couldn,t hurt...check the deflection.

check the rollers in the primary. if you can only get 7800-8000 on one corner and 9000 rpm's in the next. you might have one that is bad and it will cause the primary to stick. 8600 to 8800 is what i could have sworn i read in the manual but mine still hits 9000 on hard accelleration, but comes back to about 8800 or 8900. check the rollers and see where your at.

Over reving
Thanks everyone. The plugs might be the problem with all the oil they ate in the last 70 miles. I will also ck the clutchs.

you may have something binding in those clutches to make it so erratic like that.
