my sleds making a klank klank klank from the skid i cant figure out where its coming from. my hyfax are worn a little i was goin to change thoes next. but any other ideas? i thought i fixed it twice so far but no luck. my rear shaft was bent so i got a new one. still did it. first my front shock mount bolts broke and it was shaft was sitting on the drive nobs mut i fixed that and its still doing it. i have 144 studs but theyre not hitting the tunnle from what i can see. have heat exchanger prtectors and tunnle protectors. im realy stumped here and i dont wann pull the skid and rebuild the hole thing if its somthing stupid.

thanks

I had a loose front heat exchanger protector that would slap every time the lugs would hit it. Or maybe you have a flat spot in your belt.

Pick the back end up and have friend spin the track wile your on the ground,
look and listen, should be able to find it..

You might have a chunk of ice stuck up in the tunnel. That sound can be loud & terrifying. Also check the belt thingy too..it can also scare the crap outa you.

I had a similar problem. Check very carefully where all your idler wheels make contact with the track. My track started to seperate at this spot and small holes formed in this area, driving snow through the small holes into the seperated track. This caused the track to bulge where the idlers made contact with the track, making weird noises. Your track will be N.F.G. and Yamaha has no warranty at all for their tracks, which is a complete rip off on their part.

ill check the heat exchanger tahst what i was thinkinging i could be but it sounds like its coming from the middle of the skid. its a new belt and i already lifted the rear and spun the track. it kind stoped making the sound last night at teh all night fishing durby but ill find out when i go pick it up.

could be the track windows hitting the tips of the rails. tighten up your limiter straps a bit....try again.....happenened on my buds SXR, but only when it was on the stand....when the skid was hanging out of the tunnel with no wieght on it...would go away when riding....just a thought

that might be it cause i have them all teh way out and my shocks a little longer then stock. broke a shaft and my brotehr replaced it with one from a Sx front shock. was like 1/2 longer.

Have you checked the tension on the chain chaincase? I had a Vmax once that sounded like you described and I found too much slack in the chain. Tighted it and never had problems again.
:WayCool:

ill check it but it was def coming from the track area. its seem to have gone away tho. maybe the track wasnt seated right and now is who know. im gonna change the slides adn pull up my straps a bit anyway getting to much ski push to begin with.

thanks for the help guys

I third the heat exchanger protector. This year one of the rivets came out at the front and it was bugging me for 3 weeks and the noise would go away then come back. Once the snow got packed in there it would not make the noise. Once the snow broke loose the noise would come back. If you look at one of my first post this year someone told me to look at the heat exchanger protectors and sure enough i was so happy. ;)!

it wasn't that it was def coming from under the sled and the protector is missing and i know it was there when i put the skid back in. now i need to get a new one cause there's a few stud marks on my exchanger on that side. but the sound is totally gone now
