Hey guys,
I've been riding my dad's '97 V-Max XTC 600 a lot this winter, and I love it a lot! Right now I'm riding an '87 Exciter, and I would really like to get one of my own V-Max's soon, but had some questions first. It's a blast on the trails, and seems to have plenty of power. However, whenever I go off the trails, and into the powder, the sled's front end seems to sink. I lose a lot of speed, which I expect. However, my problem is that the sled sinks down really low, and the motor bogs down pretty bad. A year ago, we even stuck a set of rings, after driving in the deeper stuff.
My point is that the V-Max seems to be pretty front-heavy. How can I fix this problem? C&A skis? Clutching? I am running stock clutching and skis/track.

id say some plastic skies makes night inday in handleing and flotation the CnAs are pretty wide so they will give u good flotaion. also teh stock tracks suck. get eitehr a ripsaw hack saw or kimpex agressor or ultimate traction track at least 1 inch on all. 1.25 max doe that tunnle and drive cog set up.

First off I am not a powder rider! but I got into some pretty good snow this past week in Gaylord off trail & on one of the lakes had to be 12+ " I had no feel of sinking at all, I had it to 80 mph (dream meter) but had a lot of throttle left1 I have a Bender clutch kit, Viper long travel shocks, rebuilt skid ( all new) & USI Tunnel Wide skis 7" wide this might help with your decision some.The sled only weighs like 470 lbs!

I'm not much of a powder rider either, but I want to be able to drive in the deeper stuff when I get into a drift or something. I have had my eye on the agressor track, and haven't made my mind about the skiis yet. Thanks again!

I like my simmons. went through a wind drift playing on the edge of the lake yesterday ( not brave enough to head out onto the lake
) and they popped right up and over
they seem to have great flotation and are a nice trail ski. I almost never ride powder but got these because they work great on trail as well

wonder if you got somthing in clutching not right,,when i'm in deep powder
pin it and she gone..... ever clean your clutches look for worn out parts???

Mine still runs the stock boat anchor ski's (looking at new plastic ones on ebay) and the stock 7/8's" track with 7800 miles on it.
Last weekend in the powder in an undisclosed northern lower location it ran well. It does need a lot of throttle no keep the same pace as packed snow but does ok. It's not a motor can't do it issue just the stock steel ski's don't do powder too well and the stock track does not move powder out of the way like the taller tracks do. The Viper I was with was doing much better in the powder than I was. He was carving turns in it and everything.

So daman, I know the clutches were cleaned last year. After not many miles last year, and a lack of snow this year (only been out once), I haven't had the ambition to clean the clutches. I'm thinking that plastic skis would be first on the agenda.

Problem I have with plastic ski's is finding a good one from the assorted lot of manufactures.
Getting a good set that won't break the bank, have reasonable easy to get and good priced wear bars seems to be a tall order.
Most of the plastic ski's I have experiance with are the stock Yamaha ski's from the 99 and up sleds. The blueish purple ones on my dad's Viper ER (yes it was red and is now blue) seem ok but still have the darting issues.
Getting a good set that won't break the bank, have reasonable easy to get and good priced wear bars seems to be a tall order.

I picked up a pair '04 RX-1 skis from e-bay for $177 brand new. havent put them on yet because of the shity snow,,but when i do i'll do the ski shim mod and i know they'll work good.

I'm already using the shim mod on the stock ski's worked well.

You need to pick up the phone & talk to Rich right here on this site! He got me the USI's1 & he sells C&A's also just ask him what he can find for you! I think I got the orange 7" skis mounts & carbides for $200 or so!
