What is the best way to remove the front Heat Exchanger Protectors on 02 Viper?

What is the best way to remove the front Heat Exchanger protectors on 02 Viper? I put a 1.25 Ripsaw on my Viper and it is hitting my heat exchanger protectors . I want to remove the protectors,they are welded on the top and bottom. Can I get them out with out taking the track and suspension out? Any input would be helpfull. Thanks :o|
 
take out suspension at least that will give you room. but you might be better off just removing the track as well. VERY CAREFULLY cut the welds with a cut off wheel or die grinder. the exchanger is thin and they are close. dont get wild and dont get distracted. you dont even want to know what a pain it is to fix or replace that front exchanger. ski
 
Removing the front Heat Exchanger Protectors doesnt sound like a good idea, I dont have a ripsaw track on yet but my buddy put one on his 2003 viper without removing front Heat Exchanger Protectors .
 
Get a pencil grinder and trim down the lugs that are hitting. I had to do that on my 9855 1.25 (I think) track. A pencil grinder is a little hand held belt sander with the belt about 8mm wide and 20cm long.
 
I used a Dremel to cut mine off, take your time and you will never even be able to tell that they were there in the first place. The top is welded to the mounting flange of the exchanger and the bottom is welded to the fins. Unless you are real sloppy there isn't much chance of putting a hole in the exchanger. I took a before picture but forgot to take an after.

i just cut the bottom welds and stick a screwdriver in them and wiggle side to side until the top welds break.
 
its amazing how clean the top welds break! im good with a cut off wheel and grinder, but i cant cut nearly as clean as they break.

Yeah I know I thought I would have to take the track and suspention back out but nope, I die grinded the bottom welds and broke the top ones and they broke clean. Very easy fix :WayCool:
 
Mine broke off for me when the track was rubbing on it, lol. Lucky they didn't go through the exchanger when they broke.
