I just bought a 2001 SRX700 with about 6000 miles on it for $2,000. It has tempa-flow and i think it has some clutch work done. ( the helix doesnt look stock). The track is studded, but not sure how many it goes right down the middle. Maybe just 96?
Well anways, i just got back from minoqua wisconsin and my first impression was "Damn this thing is quick" It was difficult to start in the morning because it was gettin down to -25 at night and was still around there in the morning.
After driving it around and getting used to it because it was my first sled (i'm 15 and weigh around 130 lbs.) I decided to open it up on the lake, i got it up to 120 mph on the speedo and got there pretty damn fast. I wanted to race a few people but they must have been on the lakes while I was warmin up.
I like the feeling of going fast, so i was was wondering on some things i can buy to make it faster such as porting, powervalves, clutch set-ups, shaving the heads etc...
As for the suspension.... the first day it seemed very nice, and same with the second. On monday though, but the trails were poorly groomed and the moguls were terrible and my back was starting to hurt then, I'm ganna be looking into some Ohlins and see if they are worth it? Anyone have some feedback? And what about M-10/M-12? or Expert-X? And will they slow me down?
The more opinions the better!

you got a good deal on that sled. i would just say be careful it being your first sled and all you can get into trouble pretty quick with it as i'm sure you realised after riding it a few days. they are wicked sleds if you keep them in good shape. enjoy your purchase and i would just suggest that you spend as much time as you can in the next little while reading lots of posts from this site it will really help you to understand the sled and keep it running in good condition. welcome to the site !

Read up on operating your sled with tempaflow installed. If you start your sled (when the engine is already warm) and just take off without letting it idle for a minute or so, it eventually will cause some decent enging damage.
For making it faster, you can clutch it based on the recommendations of this site (do a search). Also you will want to make sure your carbs are syncronized, and your power valves are clean and adjusted properly. There is alot of information on this site regarding your new sled, so read up and have fun with it.

the cheap way to some HP is the cut and lift, shave the head and add more base gaskets. porting is always good. you might also look for a Big Bore kit on ebay, some of them go for less than $1000.
no experience with the M10/12, but I put an expert on my SRX the same time I went from a .75 to a 1.25 track and didn't notice a loss of top speed, so the expert by itself might make you quicker

I agree with Daman. 120 is plenty fast enough for someone with 20 years experience. Go look here http://www.hardcoresledder.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=140845 Speed isn't all it is cracked up to be. Maxdlx

He has an 01 so I do not think this is an option. Works on the 98 and 99 but not 2000 and up.

What exactly does fast mean when we call a sled that does 100 mph slow? You see it all the time on this board and others - I think the new phazer is said to do about 80 mph and we (including me) have a tendancy to call it slow. I have a 17 year old son that won't buy an F5 or a Phazer because it doesn't go fast enough??? When we say fast, do we mean fast enough to kill yourself?

great deal on the sled......
Like everyone else - how fast do you have to go?
Nice post by maxdlx - unfortuneatly, we see that too often.
We have 4 SRX's in our family - and we ride hard, but smart.
Learn what your sled will do, and get some experience before you make major changes - this is your first sled, no sense making it your last.
one thing to look at is suspension - pretty sure the previous owner didn't weight 130 lbs.
welcome to the site, and enjoy your new toy!

For your weight I'd say put the FRA on the top (softest) damping position and see where the control rod gap is,this is where a second person comes in handy.Ideally you want an equal gap top and bottom;if you have more gap on the top now you could take some preload out of the shock spring or vice versa for more on the bottom, add preload if more gap is now on the bottom of the rods. But the softest FRA setting is where yours should be as your a comparative light weight to the rest of us fat bastards LOL!!!

Seeing that this is your first sled at 15 and it is a 700 srx, my advice would be to go outsideand pull off a spark plug cap!
But seriously, please be careful.
That is a lot of sled even for an experienced rider.
I would worry about handling what ya got before going any faster.
Just my opinion,

Take it easy man!
I'm really glad you like the new sled. I just got my first big sled this year a 98 SRX700. When I was 15, I had a 340 Enticer and at 75-80 mph, I'm lucky I never killed myself! I know these machines are built for speed, but who really needs to go over 100? Not me. I'm putting a 1.5 inch Camoplast track on mine and will probably gear it down so it won't even do much over 100. I like the thrill of acceleration, I can do without the "fear high" from extremely high speeds. If that thing does 120, it's got to be setup pretty darn good already! Just enjoy it. Like someone said, spend your time on it making sure everything is adjusted to specs and in perfect working order, this stuff doesn't cost much and will not only make the sled run at it's best but will keep it safer too. Wax the hood, don't mess with the engine, just my two cents. After reading through that crash thread in its entirety, I'm a little soft right now though By the way, it's just sinking in to me that I'm not invinsible and I'm 35. Take care, Aaron 700

I'm a firm believer that your sled should grow as you get more experienced. IMO, an SRX700 is WAY TOO MUCH for a 15 year old inexperienced kid. (No offense to you, it's a great sled, just too much for you.) I've been snowmobiling for 10 years, and just got a fast sled 2 years ago (99 SRX 600). It's still faster than i need. Sure it's nice to know that you can go 120, but are you experienced enough to think quick enough to not kill yourself at that speed?

Makes you wonder who allowed him to get a sled like that at 15(shaking his head)
