:die: i have a 94 vmax 600. and i bought it from a freind and when he had it. when i got it on that same day i took it to a dealer and had it gone throw ($200 worth) it has a speical clutch(so he said) but after i go ti back and started riding it dont have any power 60mph max. when you stop and gun it it dont really spin the track. i took it back and they couldent find anything wrong with it. :o| :o| has anyone had this prob or any sugestion. PS a guy told me to check clutches for grooves or broken springs but there isent!! :o|

Pluged pipe? clutch offset and center to center? worn belt? Loose motor mount? Clean carbs? tight track? ect, ect, ect,

I have a 97 vmax 600. working on the same problem. had it at three shops in new york. I have had so much clutch work and carb cleaning they shine like chrome. the last shop rebuilt the top end of the motor. But the best gas milage was still 6 mpg. Since this is the only Yamaha I own. I have to compare the engine sound to my skidoo. the skidoo has a like zing, zing zing sound fron partial throttle on up. The yamaha sounds more like a NASCAR. No Zing until wide open throttle. I did the head gasket modification. And I am adjusting the carbs. I have the pilot jet screw set at 3/4 turn out and the needle jet clip set in the top grove with the washers on top of the clip. It sounds so much better. But how can I be so far off of what the factory specs are? I have to believe the main jet is correct because of how it runs and the plugs look after a wide open run. Note: The engine held together with the gasket mod and 3/4 pilot screw setting needle jet at jn:1 with 87 octane gas. (only gas available at the time)

Thats what you need to do is get in there and put your settings back to
stock.

6 mpg is just crazy,,i can do better than that with a hole in my tank.
My XTC gets 12-14mpg....

Thats crazy,,when hooked up it should lift the skis and rip a 100mph easy..
something is definitly wrong there..

Sounds like clutching problems to me,,you need somebody that knows
what he's doing to look at it..is the motor stock????

had a similar problem with my vmax. no guts,i checked everything.i mean everything. well to make a long story short it was the coil ,it was failing under load. went to the dealer got a new one and preto! i got my sled back to full song again!. factory setting on the air screw is 1 1/8 out from lightly seated.i think rpm at idle is 1575. :die: :rocks: :bling:

true that!

also check your compression.. one cylinder may be low. my old sled wouldnt go over 80 and found a bad piston with a broken ring.
