I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of hp their getting out of the bikes that the phazer motor is based off. What kind of mods are they doing and could similar ones be done to the phazer? I heard that 100hp should be easily doable.

The Phazer motor is based off the YZ250F motor. I'm not sure on the HP rating. Popular mods for the dirt bikes is cams, pipes, head mods, etc. Similar things could be done on a Phazer but I don't think any companies are making these parts for the sled yet anyway. I would have to think that someone is going to make a turbo for this sled.

yeah since the motor is basically two 250f motors its gonna be hard to get a exact number for hp gain for the same mods. but i would think that with a cam, port, and exhaust and intake you should be able to get 110 hp.

I am waiting to see if they do the same thing with the w426f motor. Those 4 strokers were crazy fast and almost identical to the 250 f

The YZ250F is about 25-27 hp stock. Im waiting to see what happens when someone comes out with a turbo kit for the Phazer. If you can get about 200 hp out of the 4-bangers and triples with a turbo, I would think you could get at least 100-120 hp out of the Phazer's little 500.
It will be interesting to see how dependable the Phazer is. 4-stroke MX bikes arent really all that dependable, so I kinda have my doubts. However, Im still planning on getting an '08 Phazer. I figure I will wait a year. That way, Yamaha will have a year to work the bugs out of it (and dont kid yourselves, there will be problems and issues on this sled, hopefully not many) and that will give me a chance to demo ride one. They look great on paper and Ive hard good things from people who have ridden them at dealer shows, but as Junior Skeptical said, "the proof is in the pudding."

I'm sure someone will come out with a cam kit that includes a way to remap fuel delivery thru the injectors - many aftermarket kits are available for HD's and they do improve the performance. This motor should react well to head mods, bigger valves along with bigger pipes to let her breathe. We used to get 8hp out of a briggs 5hp when we were racing carts - cut the heads, change the pipe, open up the valve ports, put a higher profile cam in it and change the ignition timing.

I think its gonna be hard to find more HP without a turbo, they are already pretty highstrung.

You sound like you're a Yamaha engineer.

racin station is already on the ball with the favors (check their survey over on snowest) as they are doing timing, cams, exhaust, port and head work, etc and are confident in 110hp with that alone. they also said "nobody will spend that kind of money on a turbo charger almost as much as the sled when the apex is out there" so better put your .02 in over there if you want them to work out a turbo as well...

The preliminary horsepowerfigures from MC-Xpress is a basic kit with 150hp and a racekit with 200hp.
The engine in the Phazer has more in common with a sportsbike (a genesis 150 cut in half) than a motocross, but for marketing it sounds better that the RX1/Apex is cousin with R1 and The Phazer with the YZ:s.
Makes sense when you look at the power its supposed to produce YZ250 x 2 is far from 80hp but a genesis 150 cut in half is close.

i agree more with 1/2 of a genesis 150 than i do with twice a yz250 - I think you are on the mark.

The motorcrossbikes produces very high horsepowernumbers so the reliability is a bit sacrificed = frequent services and rebuilds.
To take such a motor and produce even more hp for a sled wouldnt work, i cant se people accept to rebuild their Phazer engine every season, the reputation of the dependable 4-stroke would be crushed and Johnny sceptical would be devastated :-)
