piston wash and jetting

I pulled the plugs and they look a nice brown but when I look down into the plug whole directly into the whole the piston just below the plug is clean then I can see the deposit around the area of the plug.
I hope my explaination makes sense.
I have Aaen tripple with 50 pilots, needles in 3 and 147.5 mains with middle layer of head gasket removed. This is a 2000 SXR 700.
SHould I remove the head to look closer at the wash even though the plus look ok. Why is the piston nice and clean directly under the plug.

I was running about 40 to 60 mph and blipping the throttle for about 1/2 hr and shut her down to check plugs which seem to be a nice brown but am wondering about the wash.
 
Hmmm....i've never seen that before...needles in 3 should be pretty fat
you'd think.....

Mabie go up on the mains alittle...
 
HELP!!!!

the machine was running really good and strong when I decided to change the needle to one setting richer. The machine was too rich at that point and was not running very good. I put the needles back to 3 and it still does not run very good. The throttle does not seem very snappy and even sounds as if it is not running right.
I just cleaned the carbs but no change. Could the plugs has fouled a little when I moved the needles richer.
I am in a Yamafest run on Saturday and need to fix this.

right now it is -8 celcius....
The machine was runing reall good when the needles were at 3. I dont want to blow up and be too lean

One clip on a short try shouldn't hurt..
 
Don't go down to 2 on those needles or you will be seeing how much pistons cost. 2.5 if everything looks good, but i know i wouldn't be running 2 flat. Do a WOT run also and check plugs and wash. A clean piston indicates rich condition.

clip 2 won't hurt a thing for a short try.....buddy ran that on his sxr6
this past weekend to clean up mid..........
 
I think a whole clip is a huge adjustment - that's why they put washers in there. A jet needle staying in the orifice too long will do as much damage than will a main jet that's too small.
