this takes a little time, but it works. on hard packed snow, or grass, hold throttle wide open from dead stop. from the start of this you want to hear the track ratchet slightly. give each side 1/2 turn in to tighten track. run again, throttle wide open from the start. do this until you hear no ratcheting.then align track. ( it is important to keep the track aligned) i tried this with my 2000 srx. i was putting new hyfax on every 300 to 500 miles. ended up putting 2400 miles on a set of hyfax. 2002 viper with this set up, i got 3100 miles on the hyfax. now on my 06 apex rtx i have 1000 miles and the hyfax looks great, was up in minocqua first week of january, when snow conditions were shitty. all my tracks were, and are studded, and i have never had a problem with this set up.

What ever works for ya....cool

I drilled the little divets on mine and they work good to hold the snow until it starts heating up and melting it on marginal conditions.

I drill my holes all the through so that i can see exactly how much slide is left at all times, no guesswork, and also helps hold snow

I have 2600 miles on my original hyfax on my 02 srx. I have the polaris wheels in my skid, and the hyfax is at the wear line at the bend, buts its been that way now for 1000 miles, they just dont wear any further.
will replace after the end of the season to be safe but I am amazed how well the extra large wheels help.

i have the factory slides on my '01 sx 700R. They have been at the wear line for 5,000 miles. Not changing after this year, to be safe or for fun. They aren't wearing anymore, why change them?

2200 miles on my sx-r, still stock slides and the snows been pretty maginal since I bought it (hench only 2200 miles) they wore just about to the "wear limit marks" in the first 100 miles, been there ever since though with no extra wear.
tried the drill holes on 98 srx. worked great until little pebbels stuck in them. chewed the track clips right off. from southern il. we ride on anything. we don't get snow anymore. rode a whole whopping 50 miles here at home. 61 degrees here right now.
