Lost a little midrange in the old v-max this weekend. Seems to be in that perfect spot when your coming into a corner and want to break the rearend loose to take the turn! Slowed me down big time! It still runs great besides the midrange thing. Have not had time to check things out yet but can you guys give me a good place to start? It takes alot more throttle to get it going between turns than it did before. I tried the plugs already. Clutches are fine. I have not cleaned the carbs yet. What does a bad reed feel like?

Thanks, FishX

Is it "loosing power" only when coming out of a corner? ...check your secondary clutch (backshift), ...check spring belt height etc...
If your loosing power at midrange from a standing start, ...check your needle jet.

Clean the carbs...my 95 made a big difference with the air screws with similar problems.
Check them for about 2 turns out...but...if it's dirty...clean it first.

Thanks for the replies! It has lost power from about a 20mph roll. I have to give it alot more throttle than I did the week before but it will eventually take off just fine. It just turned 5,000 miles and ran perfect until this last weekend.
I will clean the carbs and check comp. this weekend. The comp. has always been about 120psi since I've owned it. Any other ideas? Baker, Daman, Exciter you out there?

check your skid bearings as well as spedo and jacksaft bearings. every little bit of unessasary drag counts.

If it launches from zero to top speed without any problems, then I'm with OZ & Maim. Either it isn't "shifting down" like it should, so it's stuck in "higher gear" coming out of the corner, or something finally wore out in the rolling components.

Confirm belt is in spec.

Then 1st place to look would be secondary - spring height in spec?, buttons okay?, bushings okay?, belt flush with outer edge of clutch when parked?

If secondary is okay, check everything that rolls or spins in the drivetrain.

Good luck!

Fixed!!!!!

Update!!

It ended up being the primary. The weights were wasted and one roller was shot. All the weights had deep grooves in them and one was almost worn to the rivet! I also put new roller bushings in. Jumped on the sled and it was perfect!!!!

Thanks you guys, FishX
