My 98 srx 700 has an intermitent fast idle sometimes when I come to a stop the revs will stay at about 3800-3900 if i blip the throttle sometimes it'll come back down to normal but not always. if i just leave it it normally drops on it's own after about 10 - 15 seconds. anyideas what this may be? i do have the pilots jetted down one size but never had this happen last winter just started this winter.

Whats the air screws set at? Stock is 1 1/8 turns out. Maybe go a little more out to richen them up?
Oh by the way do you want to meet us in Orleans to head to Yami Fest on the sunday?

Yamaha's dont have air screws, the screws on the bottom of the carbs are fuel screws. Open them up an 1/8 turn more and your problem will disappear. Also make sure your throttle cable isn't too tight.

throttle cable is plenty loose and i had the fuel screws way out already and it had the same problem. and srx7 i am away this weekend so can't join you sorry.

the idle is set at 1800 and it stays there bang on when the revs drop and i did drop the pilots one size but didn't have the high idle problem till this year and the pilots were dropped last year.

keep an eye on ambient temperature. when temps change you should notice the problem change. changes in altitude can also cause the problem.

My sled does this also though only at about 2500 rpm.....my buddy's F7 also does this all the time also. This is a general artifact of some carbed sleds. Personally, I do not worry about it because it comes down fairly quickly or with a quick blip of the throttle and it performs well.

this problem is worse when the temperature is colder so it seems it's cause the low end is too lean so my next step is to try changing my pilots back to stock but it runs really well with the pilots that are in it now and i'd hate to change them if that isn't the problem.

You may want to go to 1/2 choke quickly and then back off again. This will bring your R's down to normal idle. The problem is that your sled is running too lean but I don't know what causes it.

ya i don't think it's a bad crank seal cause i've been riding it pretty hard doing some really long top speed runs and have had no problems if it was a bad crank seal i'm sure i would have blown the motor by now. guess i'll just leave it and live with it.

snow mine does it also, i think its the nature of the beast.Actually the guys I ride with A/C, Skidoo, and older Pol all have that issue. The skidoo guy always blips the choke cause if he does not and he shuts it down at high rpm it lets out a big bang just before it turns off.

spray some starter fluid around the crank seals, if idle races you have a bad seal.

otherwise, it's a fuel screw adjustment. you're lean. if you don't mind it, you can run it the way it is. if you fix it, you may find that it will load up when it temps rise.

can consider remote fuel screw adjusters but very pricey new or check out tech sec. on making your own.

the nature of carbs.

SnowRules i live in Ottawa also and mine just started doing this a couple of weeks ago and i beleive it is the weather, the last week and a half has been really cold, i bet if you try it today it won't do it.

Very Common With Flatslides-tolerance Opens Up A Bit Due To Normal Wear Between Body Of Carb And Slide Itself Which Causes Intermitant Lean Condition. If Fuel Screws Dont Fix Go Back To Stock Pilot Jets Or Live With It And Quick 1/2 Activate Choke To Bring Idle Down.
