I can't believe what I'm seeing. A 2005 Vector with 2K miles is selling for $4k wrecked, and another one is a little over 4K with around 1100 miles on it wrecked. These poeple are nuts! Someone needs to teach them about the salvage business. These sleds should be selling for 15-30% of their value, NOT 60-70%. They'll be in them for more than you could buy one on e-bay for. I've seen some on here for $5100-5500 that were in perfect shape.
The insurance companys are laughing all the way to the bank because of these idiots. That's why ins. companys rule the freekin world. Because they can count on people to be this stupid.
I've been fixing wrecked cars all my life and selling them. If you can't have it done for 2 grand UNDER loan value, you don't buy it. These idiots are fixing these sleds and having retail in them. I can't get my mind around this at all. Anyone else see this the same way I do? Now I'm done ranting.

In know exactly what you mean. My old man doesn't mind buying a wrecked sled every couple of years, but no way has he ever paid more than 25% of retail.

I grew up with a father who owned and operated 3 body shops. your right about finishing a project under loan value.
You cant knock the Crashedtoys business though - they are only the middleman making a healthy profit on people who know no better. Minneapolis Business Monthly did an write up about them and there sucess story.
I have purchased a FZR600 and a two place trailer from them. Nice people to do business with, but like everything else-----you got to know what you are getting into.

i have been thinking the same exact thing.
when crashed toys started three of years ago i bought two sleds, a 2000 600 sxr and a 2001 700 sxr(still have the 700).
both sleds i paid right around $1000 each, these same exact sleds are selling for around $1800 on there today, and vipers are going for around $2200. you can get a viper in good shape for $3000.
they are paying almost retail for these sleds then fixing them, makes no sense to me.

Yeh I'm not knocking crashedtoys at all. It was a great idea that is making someone very rich. That's capitalism. Got no problem with that. I just can't understand paying close to retail for a wrecked anything. Isn't their time worth anything? Oh well, just wondering if anyone else noticed the same thing, that's all. Crashedtoys would still make plenty of money if stuff would sell at a normal salvage price. But the ins companys are almost getting all the money back that they paid out on the claim. That's why they total these things soo easy. They will tell ya right to your face.

yeah i noticed that to i spent like 6 months trying to sell my 99 zl 500 and then i finally sold it for 1650 and i looked on crashedtoys about a month ago and a 99 zl 500 went for 1300 with a junk tunnel cracked hood and busted bellypan and i found a 2002 viper with 1900 miles on there and told my buddy about it and we won it for 2400 and all it needed was a trailing arm and left bellypan the bellypan had a small hole in it (didn't fix) and the trailing arm was bent (straightened and reinforced) so we swung over to minneapolis on our way up north snowmobiling picked it up and he alredy had two vipers well one because he hit a deer with one, he still had it at the time (sold it to me now) and on our first day of riding the crank seal went out of my zl 500 (problem had been slowly gettin worse couldn't figure it out until the seal went out) so then since we had no backup sled my buddy got the sled out and he di9d that to it and i rode it 200 miles the next day so he has about 2500 in a 2002 viper with 2100 miles on it and there was a good deal on that 04 viper s on there today only 2700 and it only has 1200 miles on it if i hadn't just bought this viper i am going to part out i would have bought it because for 2700 i would have had the sled and all the parts from the parts sled i bought and this parts sled has a lot of parts on it only missing hood exhaust pipe trailing arm bellypan right side two radius rods and the bulkhead casting so i would have had 3500 in a fixed 04 viper because i paid only 800 bucks for my parts sled and i would have had 3500 in that sled and almost another complete one that i could part out and when i got done parting the parts sled out i would only have 1500 or less in that 04 viper and then i could sell my 02 viper er for 3000 wish i would have had the money right now to do that

I crashed a 2004 RX warrior two years ago... hit a tree doing over 100mph..
I paid $7800 for it NEW.... it sold on crashedtoys.com TOTALLED for $5800.. and needed a tunnel, ski, secondary clutch and other stuff!!
The guy who bought it from crashed toys.. called me and told me he got it running and was riding it.. He had $1000 stuck into it and didnt replace the tunnel , he just hammered it out..
I told him he was nuts to pay $1000 less for a wrecked sled when he could have had a brand knew one for a little more and no work or hassel
Brian..
Chad.. still lookin for a vector eh.. ??

Don't forget the extra $100. they tack on over yhe final bld price. Never liked auctions that at a premium to the bid , charging the buyer AND the seller.
People get stupid at auctions live or online. Spotted a totalled 2000 500sxr at the Whitestar Auction a couple years ago. Was hurt pretty bad, brought $1500!

no such thing as a good deal on crashedtoys - I was looking at a smashed ZR600 for a parts sled (if you own an A/C, it's advisable to have a parts sled ready to go), and I bid up to about $900 and then I gave up - the thing went for $1400. Look at some of the trailers that are getting $1,000.

Hey Viperking- That Viper S was no smokin deal at 2700. I bid 1400 and gave up after 1700. I didn't even stick around to watch it sell. Saw it go over 2 grand and started laughing.
A few years back I bought a 98 SRX600 from one of my customers who buys from Co-part auto auctions. I think it was around 2 years old, I paid $950.00 for it. Put the bulkhead and trailing arms and radious rods in. I had $1500 in it and rode it for two years and sold it on consignment at my dealer for $2200.00. That's how it's supposed to work. After I got it fixed I found this site. Man I could have fixed it cheaper with used parts from here, oh well still made money on it.

I couldn't agree more. I mainly go on to look at the closed item viewer for a laugh. I was interested in the SXR700 but knew it would go for a stupid amount and it did. MRC auction and recreational salvage are no different, prices are insane.
I agree, i have total respect for the guys that own crashedtoys, great concept and smart guys, it the dumpasss jacking the prices up.
here is a perfect example.
http://www.crashedtoys.com/ClosedItem.asp?StockNumber=CT06-151&cookiesupport=
2001 SXR 700
sold for $1875.00 plus the $100 buyers fee so total is $1975 before you drive to pick it up.
the bulkhead on this sled is cracked in half and it has 6000 miles.
this sled should not have gone for a penny over $1000.
there are guys here selling 4000 mile sleds in great shape for $2200.
makes no sense.

yeah i know the sled was not that great of a deal but i had all the parts to fix it so it would have been great for me because i have only 800 in a parts sled with all the parts for it and a motor rear suspention ect. to sell

We trailered north this week and my buddy has a 92 polaris indy in pretty good shape, I was watching it in the mirror and asked him to watch to make sure it was still buttoned down good and he said it didn't matter, it was worth a thousand on the trailer and $1500 on crashedtoys if it fell off - funny but true.

crashed toys is an amazing place, you can't blame them for what they are doing, they don't set the price, bidders do and why people pay what they do is beyond me, I bought one of my Viper S's there. Now picture this, at the time people were paying 25 to 3K for wrecked Vipers, now heres my S, a dealer repo, never had gas in it, and it if it wasn't for one other guy I would have got for the same price, me and this other guy who obviously wanted it as bad as me bid it up to 4800 in the last 10min. and that was in 04 when it was new and that was a deal. Then I bring it hame and got a bonus, it was never registered with yammie, so I run the paper, found out it was a sno checked sled never picked up so I got the sno check money.
But I guess the real story is, you got to go there and just see the junk and what people are paying for it, I looked at a dozen sleds I wouldn't give you 500 for that went for over 2K, people are just nuts. For example, a wasted Viper, 02, went for like 2200, at the time you could just click on ebay and buy the same piece for a grand more................
You can't blame CT or the insurance Co's. they just throw it out there and people buy it.

Supply and demand.... you can't give away a sled in Michigan right now.... but with guys still thinking their 96 XT's are worth $1200-1500 and any 97-99 SX's at $1800-2400???? The Auto-RV here in Michigan is full of them. Why would anyone buy them if they can get a 01 SX-R for $2000 or a Viper for $2500??? I had a customer ask me once when I told him a price on a car "Do you think I'm stupid?" My reply- "well no, but I wouldn't want to miss you if you were!!"

Easier on crashedtoys than on ebay - i could see them doing it - if you win, then just tell the second high bidder the sale fell thru.
