This forum seems like a lot of people are helpful and I need a little input.
Long story, short - I bought a 97 SX 600 new and sold it in 2000, to a guy at work. It has sat in his shop for a long time! It only has about 400 miles on it and is in excellent shape. Is there a way to find out if there was any service bulletins for this sled? I thought I read somewhere there was a few things that the dealer needed to fix on these sleds. I know, it would need the carbs cleaned and the gas changed but should I look for anything else, if I buy the sled back?
Thanks for any help!

Not sure about bulletins, but I'd look for the possibility of mice nesting in the airbox, bellypan, seat and exhaust. Also, change the chain case oil while your changing out the gas. Just go over the sled looking for lose or rusted parts that may need to be changed out. Lube the suspension and check the bearings in the suspension. Replace any that are not turning freely. You may want to check the antifreeze or just drain and replace. Brake fluid may need replacing.

YamiSmurf,
Thanks for the reply. I should of wrote that it has been in a heated garage. It has no rust, on any bolt and inside it looks brand new. I don't think it could be in a better place but it has sat for awhile. I never thought about all the other fluids that should be changed! I guess I should also do a compression test?
Thanks!

There was a recall on the pistons, the ring locator pin would fall out and the rings would migrate, catching a port and tearing everything to hell. Might want to get the updated pistons for it.

yamaholic,
THANKS! I thought there was something like that! If I do buy it, is this something the dealer would do? Or is it up to the customer to be updated when the bulletin came out? Who would pay for it?
Doug

Im not sure who would have to pay for it. If you have a good dealer they may still cover it. Give your local dealers a call. Otherwise i have two brand new updated pistons for that sled if you wanted to do the work yourself.
