I changed my track out on My MM700. I had to take off the 141x2 yokoload due to the fact it was ready to split in a number of spots. I went to a 141x1-3/4. Much lighter. After I changed it all out, I took it for a ride to see how everything was hooking up and to fine tune the track alignment. When I got back I was looking under the hood and noticed belt string all over the clutches. I am running the 8dn belt with the stock setup on the clutches. My engagement is a little low but the shift out is good. The other thing I should mention is that you can really feel a shift in the gears at about 5500. It's like going from 1st to 3rd.

I don't know if the bealt top peeling apart is anything is a coincidence or not. It just seems funny that it would happen right after the I changed the track out.

I rebuilt the primary earlier this season and everything still looks good. Secondary and center to center all seem fine.

Any one have any insight on why I can feel that shift and why the belt would seperate like that? And Are the 2 isuues related?

Seems that if you can feel the shift it would stand to reason the something is binding up to that point and letting go.What kind of shape are the bushings in the fly weights and rollers in the primary?Everything should be smooth shifting as I'm sure you know but it seems a bit odd.As for the belt peeling after the track change I'm not sure what to say there,it could be that it was just on the verge of doing so before and it finally happened.Hope you find out whats what.

Sounds like a coincadince (sp?) One thing i would check though is pull the belt if you haven't lift the rear and rotate the track and see if you get any abnormal resistance that could be putting added strain on hte clutches.

Something I just thought of,after I just had my primary apart,is the condition of the outer cover bushing;did you change it or did it even need it?After rereading the post it still seems to me that something is binding causing the feeling of shifting, mabey the tension on the drive chain is too tight?I'm reaching here so bear with me.Are all the idlers following where they should? All the idler bearings in good shape?I'm not sure what else to suggest to look for, sorry.

I did all the rollers bushings etc in the primary this year. It is in really good shape. I can spin the track with one hand by turning the secondary when the belt is off. I changed both bearings on the shaft and the chain tension is actually loose. I left it with a good 1/8 to a 1/4 of play.

Not sure what else to look at. My clutches don't seem to be getting hot. There are no burrs or anything that I can see on the sheaves.

Something grabbed the string out of the belt and peeled it out. I have string fuzz everywhere. The top cog portion of the belt was coming off in another 10miles.

I thought there was something to look for when you had the string being pulled out but can't remember or find anywhere what to look at.

Well, I did some more reading and before my eyes bugged out of my head I went outside, ran the sled. I sat there listening to it and thinking about everything I've done for maintenance etc.. on it this year.

The year started off with having a coolant problem that turned out to be the head gasket. When looking into that I noticed that my one of my SLP pipes was rubbing on one of the head studs which ended up rubbing a whole in that pipe. So I eneded up starting all over by going back completely to stock exhaust carbs, and clutches. The only thing I wasn't sure of going backwards was the exact weight I started off with in the primary. SO I eneded up using KGMZ's MM700 0-3500 feet set-up. The only thing I could come up with is that set up is too much weight. Even though the engagement and shift out seemed OK, I am pretty sure it was too much weight.

I pulled my primary apart and started looking through my tickle trunk and I found the original stock weights. I put them in and no more wacked out shift. I didn't have a chane to take it out for a real good ride but I'm hoping everything is OK.

Anybody ever run into something similar?
