my 'low oil' light comes on after about a tank and a half of fuel on my 97sx700......is this normal?....the sled runs great and not fouling any plugs...

I could run 2 tanks gas to one oil on my 97, but I was running good synthetic at that lean too. Maxdlx

seems like it might be a bit much check your oil cable adjustment and if it's set rich you could set it leaner, as lean as the spec says if you run a good synthetic oil and see if that helps.

thanx guys...i checked my gap and it was only at 17-18mm.... i adjusted it to 22mm...im running klotz synthetic so i should be ok...i will keep an eye on it..
i also noticed that the adjustment nut bottomed out and allows only for a maximum cable gap of 23 mm...does this sound right?

Yes it does^^^^

one more question...
from what ive read i understand that if the oil pump were to fail it would fail to the full open....

is it possible that my oil pump has failed?..and..if it has failed, would i not be using alot MORE oil and fouling plugs?...
.as i said originally the sled is running great other than the fact that i think its burning a little too much oil

Right.....i don't think your pump is bad,,there usally pretty relyable.. should
be better now that you adjusted it..keep us posted..

Bischof is right, but the thing is the oil pumps dont just fail one day, they fail progressively, gradually using more and more oil. That is exactly what my 97 sx did. With a new oil pump she used a lot less.
