hey guys like the site i have a 2002 Yamaha SXViper and im having trouble wiuth it. when i start it up and its idling it will make a popping noise like its misfiring but once you high idle it it is fine. i took it in and got the carbs cleaned and my reeds new plugs what could this be? i also think im losing performance becuz of this as well too. also the best i got out of it was 105mph it is stock except for a MBRP can anyway to make it faster but keep it mostly stock? someone please help me.
 
I had a bender can on at the beginning of the year and use to beat my cousins 01 srx.(Thats what he says anyway) Since switching back to stock due to the bender being too loud, he beats on me a bit and tells me its due the can being switched.Everyone on here says you lose power with aftermarket cans but in this case Im not so sure. I dont think we really had a big enough straight away to see who was faster earlier this year but last weekend in Canada we really had a chance to open them up and out of the hole I really left him but on the mid he started catching up and then passing.
 
How many miles on it? If there is lots of miles on it then lots can be wrong.

Definately check your pv's and adjust them. Dump the can.

I would first check the compression. I had the same sort of low idle problem just before I popped my 600XTC. There might be a problem with one of the rings.

the reeds were CLEANED? When we refer to checking the reeds, we mean to make sure that the tips are sealing tightly against the cage, and that none of the tips are cracked or missing. If reeds aren't sealing tight, you are losing some of the fresh intake charge out the backs of the carbs.
 
Here's a story that may help. I had a perfectly running sled until I took it to a yammie dealer in Saginaw,MI. Their job was to clean the carbs. For two years after that I battled all kinds of problems. Mostly backfiring and fouled plugs. I had it back to the same dealer during those two years a few times to correct the problem. This year I took it to another dealer who cleaned and adjusted the carbs (correctly) and found my tors switch was going bad. Now, it runs like it did when it was new.
The dealer in Saginaw blamed everything from my visor heater to simply dirty gas. I would question the work of your yammie service tech. Especially if it ran good before you took it in.
