00 SRX 700 rpm problems?

Thanks for more suggestions yamaholic, i have not got into the carbs or PVs yet- will have to check jetting specs on 800' elev + avg temps to ride in cntrl VT. Track spins free by hand up on stnd w/about 1" sag- clutches were just done last fall and sled stored inside(talked to prev owner today), engine sounds good to me alltho a friend says it sounds as if a misfire is going on. Plugs all fire while out on heads, i borowed a plug blaster from a guy @ work today- but concerned that some grit may get caught in between ceramic and plug body and come out later, even if blown before they are re-installed. Plugs get hot some grit may drop into cylinder, do not need that prob. on top of WHATever is going on now. Thanks again to all- will get NEW plugs (BR9ECS) and try this out tomorrow, (shame on me for maybe not letting it warm up enough)?, We'll see - Thanks, Al

a bagged primary clutch will not stop the engine from reving over 4000 rpm if the sled is on a stand.... Look at the TORS once again and be sure to bypass it correctly and not simply disconnect it...

what's next guys??

OK don't think i forgot you guys or fell off the earth-- just too busy @ work. Thanks for all replies and suggestions on this and from my original post! Pulled carbs to clean (will do sat), pulled and cleaned pwr valves, they were relatively clean, just hit them with wd40 and a greenie scrub pad, they came out with no problems, the guy had been using yam lube. Carb heaters were on. Also pulled out reeds - perfect condition no bent/chipped or other damage to them, petal clearance on them is tight to the seals. Will be pulling carbs apart tomorrow to clean and adjust, anything in particular to look for? Also drained all gas and checked fuel pump operation, fine. Gas was actually pretty tired out, guy i got it from said was fresh (gas floats on water) ha ha. As i said before the plugs are br9ecs, they were gapped @ .036-.039, not the .028 to .031 as needed, also they were not the 4677 stk#, these have the screw on/off tip. Ok now to the other, lost maybe 3-4 oz of coolant, do i have to bleed system? Should i prime cylinders or just pull it over with choke on? Should i put 2 gals of prem gas w/50:1 mix to be sure of proper lube after doing this stuff? Thanks again, Al

Main jet in wrong carb!!

OK just getting into carbs today, 146.3 in #2+3 and 147.5 in #1............. Changed the #1+3 to each other, carbs were clean and adjusted right other than that "little?" problem. Will be riding 300-800' elevations in New England. Checked resistance in plug caps and coils, coils are within spec, 2 caps are 5.21 - 5.39 ohms, 1 cap is 90+ohms not good on that 1, ha. The screw prong in the bad cap is sooo rusty, was not able to get a good cleaning at it either. Plugs were also gapped at .040 and not at .030, and this thing just came out of a Yamaha shop in upper Ohio!!!! :o| Also found out choke pivot on carb setup was sticking, had to remove the screw/pivot and lube it up, that was not letting choke close all the way. These plugs WERE the BR9ECS with the removable terminal nut. Put in the .030 gapped non-removable terminal nut plugs, now have to get new plug cap(s) and will try this thing out this weekend (in mid VT) hopefully. Anybody have suggestions as to starting motor with dry carbs? Should i premix a little gas for 1st gallon or two? Choke on with a couple throttle shots while pulling it over? NGK plug cap #s? Any suggestions or thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks, Al
