Pulled the carbs and reeds from a 98 SRX. Sled has reed spacer installed. There seems to be lots of throat to the intake. Does this engine benifit from spacers?

Reed spacers for the SRX do nothing, infact I have some for my SRX but I took them off. Spacers are made for I believe SX's and other sleds to keep the reeds further away. The spacers are not necessary for the SRX.

yup Matt is right, the srx/vipers have longer intake tracts and the reeds don't block the transfer port as they do on the red head engines.
Ummm...got a local very knowledgable engine/pipe builder that has tested spacers on a SRX & has a slightly different opinion.

Hey Turk, i little more info! What kinda gains are we talking about...........James
added spacers to mine along with carbon tech reeds, major noticable difference in low to mid range. as this sled is built for mountain riding, never was concerned with top end speed. but this addition really woke up an otherwise stock mill.
You will see 1-2 hp and better throttle response.

seams like the extra crank case volume would hurt power a little. it would also thow the helholtz resonence out of whack a touch too. I'm surprized the minor flow improvment would counteract that that well.
Turk is correct there is a 1-2 hp gain on the srx's.It's nothing your going to notice drastically though.
