On a recent trip I went out on I managed to get 191kms(117 miles) on my 97 sx on one tank.Granted the first 100kms were normal driving (100-120kmh) until we found out the gas station closed earlier than expected then we traveled then next 91kms at 60kmh (35mph) to try to conserve fuel and it worked.Fueled up and the tank accepted 40 liters (8.8 gal cdn).Don't know the max capacity of the tank but it sure was not a very comfortable ride to the gas station. The other sleds were a Rx1, Apex, 600xc and a 500 indy which were also on empty except for the '99 500 which still had a quarter tank.Makes for a very long trip when the guage is showing E for that long.LOL
Just wondering if anyone else has strecthed out their fuel milage this far or even further.

too much math for me to try and convert... I get a consistant 120 miles to a tank of gas. I get a consistant 10mpg. I can get 12 mpg if I am not totally trashing on it and don't know what it would do at 35mph or trying to conserve.

i had almost 100 mi on my tank last week between fill ups and it took 7 gals. the srx holds 11 i think. but the gauge showed 1\2 tank. my experience is the gauge drops like a rock after you hit the 1/2 tank mark.

my last trip i ran out!!!! same trip the week before i made i ok , this time ran out about 10 miles short of the nearest gas station. IT REALLY SUCKS! :o| thanks to the kindness of a well prepared vermont resident on vacation, who gave me enough gas to get going again. boy is that embarsing. it will never happen again though as i will gas up at 1/2 tank no matter what next time.thanks to heyden esso who loaned the other guys a gas can to come back and make sure i got out also.

I have gotten over 150 miles to tank on several occasions on my '01 sx 700r and '97 sx 700 when i had it. My srx isn't near as good, usually 110 miles or so to a tank, but i have it plenty rich too. By the way these are all 12 gallon tanks.

you guys are lucky...

i'm getting like 40-50 miles to 8-9 gallons in my 95 600 vmax..

but i has a nasty hole/bogg right at trail speed.. between 5000 and 5800 rpm it sucks.. need to pin it to get it over 6000 then let back on the throttle to maintain 6000-6300 rpm.. but if it falls under 5800.. back to full throttle to get out of the hole..

i'm thinking the pilot jet is too small.. since it runs so smooth from idle to 5000 rpm..

i have a 97sx700 and find that the the gas gauge is set to show empty early....i have gone 200 km on a tank before a couple of times .....but dont like to make a habit of it unless like in ur case it was absolutely necessary.....the tank capacity for the 97 sx 700 is 45 litres so u had about 5 litres to go ;)!

The pilot jet controls idles much more than 5,000 rpm. At 5,000 you are getting more in the needles than anything. Something dirty in those carbs? Something worn or binding in the clutches?

I agree. Though the pilot works from off idle thru 3/4 throttle it has lesser effects the more the throttle is opened.

You may have a few issues in those carbs and I would certianly look at the pilots when you remove them for cleaning. if they are plugged replace them with the same size pilot. Clean the carbs real good. Grab a big can of carb cleaner and plan on spending 20 minutes per carb cleaning all the passages, jets and the needle. Then set it per factory recommendations for your temp and altitude. Once you know that your sled performs with factory spec feel free to adjust to your liking.

Isnt 40 liters 10 1/2 gals ,not 8.8, or is canadian gals different?

My wife ride the same sled 95 600 LE. Last ride we checked the mileage.
She went 90 miles and use 6.7 gallons. That 13.4 MPH. Stock jetting, stock clutch settings, 4500+ miles.

raise your needle clip 1 clip position, it should clean it up. I have to run my needles a bit higher to get it to run properly. now I am seeing 12mpg regularly and 13-14mpg when its colder out (0-15 F) It was never an issue with the carbs being dirty or clutches worn, it's just where this sled likes to run. Try it, if it doesn't work, put the needles back and start looking for other causes.
