I'v been playing around with the clutching on my 99 500 sx well first of all I just did the head gasket mod, reed notch, took the middle out of my airbox and went to a 150 main, Then I decided to try a thundershift clutch kit weight are a base of 38.5 grams well I had to add alot of weight I'm running 15.6 mm rollers orange/pink/orange spring with shim, engagement is around 4800 right now I'm running 58.1 grams of weight it comes off the line at 7600 and pulls to around 7900 on mid range. My question is what is my peak rpm and what should I try to clutch for?

yup 7800 is peak for that motor.

my sxr 500 is clutched so it engages at 4000 and peaks at 7800. im using a modified vmaxjhon set up from the tec pages.

do a search using my name because there is a thread going on this with all the details.

Has anyone shaved the head on these models?are the engines the same for tolenance from 97- 02? what is the maximum you can shave off?

i know the 200-2001 compression from the factory was high enough not to have to do the headgasket mod. might wann pm junior or dokc with this question.
