Secondary clutch, Belt location

I have a 2001 SRX 700 (stock)

Where should the belt sit on the secondary? Is it better to have the belt sitting just above the edge of the secondary? (according to the spec it can sit just inside or outside of the clutch)
I understand that the 3 bolts and shims adjust the belt location. Can I remove the bolt and add / remove shims with the clutch still on the sled without a problem?

A good new belt should at least be flush with the top of the secondary, preferably sit a little above the top if you have your center to center, offset, and deflection set properly, and the belt is within spec for lenth (factory tolerances, some are shorter some are longer).
 
All my manuals say "When installing the new belt,
be sure the v-belt is positioned 0-2mm(0-.09)below
the edge of the secondary sheave"

^^^^thats how i run mine.


So it sounds like eather flush or just a hair below the secondary or
your belt will be to tight.

Unless SRXs are diff.
 
yamaholic22 is correct..at least flush but just a little above preferably.
Center to center and offset should also be checked.
All three will make a different in performance.
