my attak pushed real bad with the stock skis and carbides. i pulled the 05 mtn skis off my viper and put them on the attak (10" carbides, and shimmed bumpers) it corners good now, except it darts, the steering is too heavy and it has MAJOR inside ski lift (even with 12mm bar and transfer turned almost all the way down!) i really like these on the 136" viper, but not on this sled. any ski suggestions? i want light steering, no darting and better than stock cornering. what is the best for me? please nobody say c&a's either. i have a set on my polaris and they corner good, but they dart like mad and my arms are sore after 10 miles! thanks!

David,
Darting is really more in the setup than the actual ski you are running. Any aggressive ski will dart if not setup properly. Try getting some more weight on the skid and off the skis to decrease the darting. Also, make sure you have a center bias on the skis, not front or rear. Check toe out at around 1/8" out, definately NOT in, very important.

See above for ski alignment then dual carbides to get rid of darting. The dual carbides last forever, and I'll never run a sled without them again.
I concur... dual runners is the way to go!!!!Roger said:See above for ski alignment then dual carbides to get rid of darting. The dual carbides last forever, and I'll never run a sled without them again.

I personally hate the dual runners. There are a lot of other ways to get rid of darting that dont drop fuel economy, top speed, and aggressive cornering.

Take the shims out and your steering effort will be lighter. After I installed my new mtn skis I did the shim and it was brutal to turn. After 40 miles my arms felt like I did 300 tricep presses. Check your alignment. Double check your suspension setup (as yammaholic already said). I had to readjust ski pressure to get it where I wanted it.

well the limiters are all the way out, and transfer is as high as it is. i tried them with and without the shims and the shims helped a little so i left them in. toe is close to 1/8", definatly no more than 3/16". i guess i shouldnt have said they dart, they follow other skis grooves too much. either way if i take more pressure off the skis to reduce the problem (which i really cant) then ill have even more inside ski lift. it already feels like the limiters are too far out. like i said, these skis worked great on the viper, but i just dont think they are a good match for the attak. im thinking of either some doo pilots or some simmons. part of the problem on the attak is the lack of a center spring to aid in tuning.

I have Simmons on my Attak and love them. I too thought the stock skis darted but the push was what was unacceptable. Simmons work great. I have Toe in/out at very close to parallel (just a hair toe out was as close as I could get). Skis are shimmed and have 6" Bergstrom carbides all around. I backed off the preload on the front shocks so only about 1/4 of the threads show above the collar. I run transfer one mark to more transfer from the stock centered position. No ski lift, no darting and rails in the corners.

Simmons sound like that may be a good thing for you to try David. Once you get it all setup let me know so i can come and take it for a ride

looking outside it looks like youll have to wait until next year! ill get it all set up, i was too busy racking up the miles having fun to play with it more. so far it has only been on 2 trips and has 850 miles on it. you should have seen the first turn i took after i put the swaybar and skis on. i thought it would rail because of the swaybar and wider skis (also offset to a 1" wider stance). i flew into a corner and pinned it. the inside ski was probably 2' in the air! i almost rolled the thing! for some reason the mtn skis corner like a 3 wheeler on this thing! they rule in the powder though. i could whip this thing in circles all day long. at least until the track digs a hole to china!yamaholic22 said:Simmons sound like that may be a good thing for you to try David. how is the steering effort? i dont expect it to be as light as stock, but the lighter the better!Sinjin said:I have Simmons on my Attak and love them. The steering effort is not reallly an issue. I have read others say it took so much effort to turn, but I don't experience this. It really isn't much more than stock. One thing for sure it seems to take less turn of the bars to make the sled go where you want it to.n2oiroc said:how is the steering effort? i dont expect it to be as light as stock, but the lighter the better!

I have 6" carbides on both inside and outside. Previously I had Simmons on a RX1 and ran 6" on the inside and 4" on the outside. This worked well too, but when I switched the Simmons to the Attak I bought one new pair of 6" and put them on the inside and put the used 6" on the outside. I keep my stock skis for running in early season and late season when the snow is not so good. I would hang on to yours and use them for these conditions or to put back on when you move on to another sled. The stock skis are really not worth much to sell.
