Head Gasket mod??

Never being a fan of being stranded....

I'd rather spend $100.00 to machine the head and use a full gasket and eliminate any possibility of blowing out the gasket. That's why I'm interested to know how many "Thou" I can machine off of the head which would be equivilent to the head gasket mod? I don't want to get into modifying the "Squish" in the first round of mods. (Maybe later).

Anyone?

trust me if its done right it wont leave you stranded. my 2000 sxr is coming up on 9000 miles and it has had the mod since I bought it. if you peel the center layer, it is bulletproof. the guys having problems are the ones peeling 2 layers and running with one. i took the metal insert out of the middle and put the top and bottom gaskets together. i run 93 octane on a regular basis and i have run this setup w/ and without SLP triples on it.

Each layer of the head gasket is .009", so if u machine that much off the haed it would be the equivalant of reducing 1 layer.
