Hey i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove the rivets from the clutch weights. My brother got new weights for his 97' V-max and he is just gonna put the old weights in. any advice?

I just put the weights in a bench vise and use a cold chisel and hammer to remove one end of the rivet. Then I use a punch to hammer the remaining rivet out of the weight. I have changed rivets several times and thats whats worked for me.

Just removed some this last weekend. Grounded down one side, heated them up a little and punched them out.

yup i always just grind one side down and punch it through. just be careful not to hit the weight itself when your cranking away with that grinder.

Thanks for the advice! We got them out and should have the beast going tonight in time to do a little water skipping.

So what method did you use? I just drill the head of the rivet and press it out in a vice... each weight takes maybe 3 mins to do...

We just cut the head off of the rivet with the die grinder then put them in the vice and hammered them out with a punch. They came out easy after we ground the end off.
