A couple of months ago I bought a used Viper from Weber Cycle in Waterloo, IA. The sale went smooth, and I couldn't be happier with the sled. The wife gave me okie dokee to pick up an Attak, so I made a few calls in my local area (MN) and also to Weber to see what was available. A few days later they called me back offering their District, or regional managers personal sled that would be sold as new with a full warrenty in showroom condition and less than 700 miles. I agreed to buy the sled 5 days before I'd take delivery. Day 2 he calls to say that the sled has 650 miles and thought it came with a cover. The next day he calls to say that he was mistaken there was really 1250 miles on it and there's no cover. He offered a cover or 1 year extension on the warranty to help make my decision easier, and I agreed as long as it was really in showroom condition and the cover would be on it when I picked it up since we were leaving to go up north right away with it. He said the manager had access to the cover. The night before I was to drive to IA to pick up the sled he calls to say that they ordered the cover, but it wouldn't be here till next week, but they had done all the maintenance on the sled, and it was in great shape ready to go. This entire time I'm not dickering on the price at all, just trying to confirm what I was buying. When I arrived to pick up the sled at the border the first thing I looked at was the carbides. Worn completely flat. He told me this was how they're supposed to look, and wasn't happy when I said I wanted replacement carbides.
After a call was made they agreed to overnight a new set to my home. The sled also has a contant beep coming from the backup horn, but at a slower interval. His solution was for ME to take it to a service center and have it fixed. After all this I STILL agree to bring the sled home. They had demanded a nonrefundable deposit, and I didn't want to hassle with it. I trailer it home, and lube all the fittings that obviously hadn't been greased. Water poured out of the joints as the grease pushed in. We then took it north to try and find some snow to ride on. At mile 1.2 the temp light comes on! As the access panels come off we see that the coolant tank is empty! So we drive back with a whopping 3 miles on the sled and learn that they shipped the carbides UPS ground, and wouldn't return my call!
If you're an exec working for Yamaha, and get a free sled to ride on each year.. Wouldn't you want to do the routine maintenance knowing your name goes on it when it's sold? Wouldn't you be bright enough to check the carbides? If the horns beeping constantly shouldn't it be fixed? I saved a few dollars, but have no clue what damage has been done to the sled in the first 1280 miles (not 1250) I'm kicking myself for not holding out for a snowchecked 07 with the updates and extended warranty.
Just had to vent. I hope someone at Yamaha reads it.

you should call your area sales rep man.
Sounds to me like they sold the 650 miles sled and replaced it with this one. Have a dealer run the serial # to see if it was titled to someone, then drop them a call. You might find out some surprising stuff. All sleds in Ia have to be titled to be registered so if it has a Ia reg sticker it was titled. maxdlx
Just remember these people just want your money!!!! If you don't scream and shout nothing is going to happen, it's the people that don't say anything that get walked all over...Just because of the headaches of this salesman I would be looking for an Extended Warrenty..maybe 2 years.. Salesmen should know exactly what they are selling before it's up for sale, milage condition etc...Sounds like these guys are trying to walk all over you..I can't stand that if I agree to a price and I am told it's showroom condition then the carbides should be new or close to new..and even the sleds in the showroom have coolent in them...Good Luck!!!
I would get ahold of yamaha direct and tell them your situation.
I agree, call yamaha direct.

the reps don't always get a free what ever to ride, the 2 that I know, would never have a sled like this, also I think yamaha requires them to keep what ever it is in excellent condition, just because someone might want to demo it, I say something else is going on here, mother yamaha would not like a rep getting rid of a sled with problems. the standards these people have to live by, I'm not sure I could do, but I would sure try.

That is what carbides should look like..........after 100mi on a paved road ! Seriously, though.... been down that road I feel for you ! I have never ever met a seller who I agree with on the stated condition of a vehicle after I drive 4 hours.....guess my standards are too high ? ! ? B.T.W. don't EVER buy a car from a auto mechanic.......been there..... !
