My 98 V-Max xt burns an unreal amount of oil, I beleive the oil pump must be gone. Could I just mix the gas for the sled to run better rather than burn all the oil without replacing the pump, its late in the season and I just dont want to mess with it right now. What would I have to mix the oil and is there any other things I would have to do with it to run on mixed gas or just mix and go ?
Thanks Alot

if the pump was gone it wouldnt be pumping any oil. check teh adjustment on ur oilpump cable make sure its to specs. its always better to fix the small problem befor it turns into a bigger one.

Wrong. The pumps are built to run wide open when they go bad. Either replace it or mix the oil and gas at a 32 - 40 to one mix.

First things first,,check to see if the cable is seated right in it's slot..
Then check to see if it's within specs..

Your sled should be set at 19mm to 21mm i'd use the 21mm setting thats
the lean side. measure it at "a"

I have the powermadd cable extensions on it, could this make the settings different ?
and if I do run mixed gas can I just mix and go or do I have to disconnect anything to do with the oil ?
Thanks

Yup the pumps go to full stroke when they go bad. But as others said make sure your cables are seated correctly, or you will use a ton of oil. I dont know if the powermadd extensions would change the settings or not, might also be something to look into.

what i don't under stand if a shaft is broken and the pump isn't spinning how can it pump oil? it doesn't make any sense to me. I've never seen any kind of rotary operated pump that can pump with out being driven buy something. or do they just go wide open when the seals go because the oil can just by pass the pump by being gravity fed? that's the only reason i could see for any kind of pump going at full flow when it goes bad. every thing Ive been taught about pumps contradicts the notion of a pump pumping too much when it goes bad. personally I've never heard of it. if some one could explain to me now the oil pump works(gear pump, vane, geroter, piston etc..) because i would really like to know.

does the fule pump its self creates the vacume to suck the oil threw and the "oil pump" just a flow control regulator? and only alows so much oil by for each revolution of the motor or what? doesnt make senc to me that if it actualy pumps its self that it would pump more when it was bad?
