Suggestions for Used Sled Trail Comfort

Well, my father went sledding with us for the first time this season in close to seven years. He rode his '93 Phazer. Now I know the old Phazers were never much of a comfort ride but this time around (he's now 58 yrs old.) the machine really beat the s*** out of him; and the trails were not that rough.

We are actually contemplating the purchase of some property in the U.P. and hopefully he will ride with us more frequently.

Some of the guys we ride with grew up in the area and know alot of back country play areas and logging rodes.

I want to pick a sled up for him that will provide a fairly good amount of travel suspension as well as be fairly light weight so he can move it around in the deeper stuff; reverse would be nice as well.

I can't buy a new sled because they are just too expensive in my opinion but don't want some used beater either.

Suggestions?

Try E-bay and find a set of used Vmax 5-600 Struts, aluminum knuckles and strut holders which will add 2.5" of travel up front then, add a 136" track for off trail ridding and a smoother ride on the trail also, drop the rear suspension mounting holes to offset the higher front. Reverse..... don't know but the Venture's had reverse and are a Phazer without the fairing ?

Pick up a used Venture for him. 600 triple or 700 triple. Great ride and handling, good on fuel and oil. And you'll always have a spare seat in case someone breaks down. I own a 2001 700 purchased at the beginning of this season. You can make this machine float like a cloud, or stiffen it up and jam through the bumps and twisties. Just a suggestion from a TY member who rides with a 69 yr. old 99% of the time. See, the Venture is his OLD sled. He is on an 06 Rage now LOL! Hope this helped.

When I was without a sled in my college days, a neighbor took me out with him a few times. He had both a mid 90's Phazer II and Venture. We swapped sleds every now and then and his venture was MILES above the phazer in comfort, from suspension to the seat foam.

yeah go with a venture 6or 700 u cant go wrong with them, add some newer skis and stud boy shaper bars and it will ride and handle good!!

I have a 600 Venture and a Phazer ST the Venture ride is great I find the power is good for a big sled ( heavy ) just don't get this thing stuck....Don't get me wrong I was very impressed with this sled in deep snow and slush there is not too many places I wouldn't take this thing... I am going to upgrade the track to a 1 1/4 ripsaw and I am looking for new handlebars ( I just bent mine ) and newer plastic skis I just hit a rock with the steel one and need to replace it now....You will not go wrong with a Venture excellent on gas and oil handles very well once set up, and reliabilty is second to none, of course!!!!!

id personally think he might like a vmax xtc or xt they are a really good comfortable sled as well

The thing for me that would want you to get him a venture would be the adjustable backrest. My father had a 2001 Venture 700 for a few years, he loved it, comfortable ride, good on gas, and he loved the backrest, gave him extra support that you wouldn't have on a normal seat. If he's looking for comfort, I'd go Venture all the way. Longer track to smooth out the bumps that a short track can't, plus the seat is more plush, and it has a luggage carrier.
