I have a vmax. I do not want studs. Is it better to go with 1" or 1.25"? Do I need to worry about drivers??

No , only if you want to stud a 1.25 then you will need the smaller drivers to clear heat exchanger, because of the stud length needed.
I DID remove my heat exch. protectors on the viper, when I put on the 1.25 ripsaw.
