Whats the power like? If it was a two stroke what would be close? Based on horsepower it looks like a 500cc 2-stroke.
Overall handling?
Was wind at speed a problem on the no windshield model?
Any comments would be welcome.
Thanks

Over all I loved the phazer, but the power was weak! I think it would be a great trail sled for the tight and twisties! It handled great ... effortless to stand up like the rev.
I don't know about the wind protection ... it was sunny and warm!
I would definatly buy one if it had just a little more power. I don't care about going super fast I just would like it to have a little more pepp!

I think you would freeze your butt off without a windy, but it seems to offer alot of protection for your legs(I tried feeling for windage around my knees and detected less than a vector. The wind deflectors are probably a must). I was in the first group on Friday so it may have been cooler. We were also stuck behind the Yamaha rep on a VK Pro so there was no real opportunity to test the trigger. The muffler is almost too quiet doesn't transfer a whole lot of what the motor is doing to your ear. I did peel onto a non-groomed side trail that ran along side the main trail, I don't remember having to work the throttle any harder, I was just attempting to hit the biggest bumps. A+ on the bumps. I would really like to get a chance to try it out in an open test, no leader to follow. Some of the other guys agreed that it was set up for the heavier riders and I thought it handled very well, lighter guys thought it was a little unpredictable. Ergos were awsome and I swear I could have rode all day on my feet. The sled also feels ALOT smaller in person than even the pictures portray. It also feels very light when you ride it. I didn't have the cramped knee feeling I get when sitting on a Rev (6ft) although I've never driven a Rev chassis, just parked my butt on a few.
My biggest issues at this point(if I were shopping for a new sled) would be the how much the vibration(comparable to big twin smokers I've been told) would bother me over a day and wether or not 80HP is enough to haul my 240LB fat A** around. I'd need a less restricted test ride to seal the deal.

I'm kinda wondering at this point if yamaha is trying out a whole new chassis design for all thier sleds in a this little package. I think they will end up evolving the chassis alot more and include that to all thier sleds. It's seems like a good start. I can't see them not trying the waters to compete with the rev style chassis. Especially when artic crap is moving that way too. I think theres much more to come then the little phazer, but using alot of design put into it.

Look at Yamaha history with there sleds and the Phazer starts a new breed of sleds and test the market. This sled will roll heads and raise the bar again for the four stroke market.

I think if you stick a turbo on one that would be one sweet ride.

my point exactly!!

I thought yamaha said bender had a turbo for it and it made 110 hp or so?? It has neat ideas, but is not a sled for me. I ride groomed trails, not ditches. and no delusions of being blair morgan or jimmy blaze. like I said neat ideas an dI am glad they did it, but not my sled

I'm no Blair M/ Jimmy B. but, if you ride narrow twisty trails like we have here in N.W. Pa. I'll bet it would be the ticket and a blast to ride ? 90% of riders don't average over 30-40 m.p.h. ?

...and now for the opposing point-of-view: I hate the looks, it's like a giant Sno-Scoot
Then the fact that they only put 80HP under the hood... More like an entry level sled that will not be fun on a 10 degree day, IMHO.

but my thought was that without me seeing HUGE bumps, I would rather have alow to the ground corner carver. seems the new thing is that if you can body english it, it handles good. I liked my old 97 sx. it HANDLED. I sat there and it would rail the corners. I dint have to force it to do what I want, it just plain did it. my viper is real close to that now with the new track and skis. swaybar over the summer and I will have it I think
it is the same idea as a rev, sits high and if you work it it will "handle", just not the handle that I am looking for.
