just measure your bars, figure out how much you want to change, and buy some aftermarket bars, they are cheap.

can get firecat bars with th hooks for $35, and then use the cat warmers and have heat all the way to the ends that was my thinking anyway
03viperguy: Where do you buy the firecat bar? $35 sounds like a great price.

2 inches will be low!!!!! I wish I would have read this before I left, I would have taken a picture of my fcat bars with a 5 inch riser, its not much higher than stock on my srx. Hold off till this next weekend and I'll shoot ya a pic. I got my bars from my cat dealer for less than $40 too.

I actually think the yami ones are the same price. I know the cat ones are pretty long to cover the hooks at the end

03viperguy,
I am looking at doing the same thing. I am hoping to pick up this week a used Firecat bar with grips & heating elements for $30. I remember Boomer using these bars on his Viper with a 5" riser. Once I get the bars I will figure the riser out.

I will.
I have only been talking about doing this for the past year. Decent used Firecat bars are hard to come by. I have either found bent ones or were the guy is selling them complete with controls, riser, and pad. There is a guy on Articchat.com that selling two complete sets with controls, riser, and pad for $80.00 ea. This is more than I wanted to spend considering I do not need the controls and cannot use the riser.

Question for you guys... how do you plan to put your throttle and brake assembly on the Firecat bars? Don't you need to remove the grips and warmers and slide them on? If you buy a complete setup (including grips/warmers), you'd have to remove them anyway, wouldn't you? Are you planning on using the Arctic Cat throttle, brake, start/stop switch?
I just did the handlebar mod that Powervalve-700 has and it turned out pretty nice. I cut 1" of the Yamaha bars off, added 45 hooks, wired new generic elements (larger than the stock ones), and finished by installing 8" Firecat grips over everything. It has a nice clean look.
I planned to do the handlebar swap thing as well, but figured it would be too much work, but maybe not after hearing your ideas. I'd be interested to see a complete setup when completed.

will the firecat heating element wire right into the yamaha variable heater switch?

Almost any element will work... you just need to wire into the existing wiring on the sled.

I intend to keep the Yamaha brake and throttle controls and use them with the Arctic Cat bar. I thought the brake and throttle controls have a clamp that seperates when you remove the bolt. If not, and I have to slide the controls off and on the bars, I am not sure what I am going to do.
Something else I just realized today is that there are different bars used on the Sabecat and Firecat. The bars I am planning to pick up this week are off of a 05' Sabercat. The Sabercat bars have a rise to them and a cross bar. The Firecat bars are relatively flat with no rise.
I will have to see how this all works out. I wont know what I am up against until I have all the parts. My original intent for this mod was to go with a larger riser than my current 1" and go with the Arctic Cat bars with integrated hooks. I can keep you guys posted.

I don't believe they seperate-- You will need to slide them on, so I don't know how easy, or if it's even possible.
