Well, I took the day off today and went for one of the last spins for the season. Watched the odometer on my 2001 SXR600 hit 9153 Km!! She was running real fine all day.

On the way home I was "racing" my buddy's Apex and I was doing pretty good until my belt blew!! I guess I'll be sending that Ultimax3 back to Dayco for a free replacement. Fortunately, the only damage was to the shield that protects the spedo cable and the colling hose ( it was a "little" bent, but did its job). I estimate I put about 2800 Km on that belt. Anybody have an idea what's the average life for a belt? What's your experience?

The weather here is still below freeezing so it looks like this Saturday is another "Ride Day".

Cheers!

Hey there

I never know you could do that with their belts, sweeeeeettt!!, but I have yet to have an Ultimax3 blow.

Also, doesnt that suck when you belt blows. On my second yamaha belt, it blew then kinked the speedo cable really bad, so then it didnt work. Well actually, it worked after it blew, then I unkinked the cable and it stopped working, so dont try and unkink it, save yoursefl the $60. Got a new cable and now its all good, but im thinking of putting some sort of sheild around the cable so it doesnt destroy itself when the belt blows. I was thinking of some aluminum pipe or rubber hose that fits on the cable really snug.

Also, 3000 kms is when I change belts, exactly that too as at that point, they look preety bad and are preety worn out.

Its cold here but all the metled snow froze, so now everyhting is ice and you cant go anywhere really, without melting your sliders. Some snow would be great, especially when we have 3 ft of ice everywhere! Will be sledding till May!

you still have lots of life left in that sled yet. i just sold my 2000 600sxr 2 weeks ago with 12000km on it and it was still running strong

We have an 01 SXR600 in our group with 15000KM and I bought my old mans 00 Vmax 600 DX with 12000KM when he bought his new Vector this year. Both are untoched and have never blown a belt, we usually flat spot them before they wear out. The 03 RX1 in the group is also around 10-11000 KM.

My buddy's sx600 has 18,600 km on it and I'm trying to convince him to tear it down before it blows up and he ends up having to get new jugs.

I have no plans to get rid of it. I love it. Thinking of doing the head gasket mod and maybe triple pipes.

Did take a closer look today in the daylight, and not only did it bend the aluminum guard protecting the spedo cabble and coolant hose, it also put a GOOD dent in the foot well. I thought I felt something near my left foot!!!

It's a good thing there was metal between the belt and my foot, because based on the size of the dent, I'd likely have a cast on today!!!

Mailing Carlisle my blown belt for the free replacement (< 1 year = new belt). Can't see any alignment issues which would have caused the failure, I guess it was just time??

The climatologists are saying that our area will remain below freezing for the rest of the month. I hope they're right!! (My wife on the other hand....)

Cheers,

I just turned 9000 kms on my 98 700, however my seasons done, broken center shock, and i cant find a replacement viper shock here in Mb. 3500 of these kms have been piped, still runs good and strong. This summer im gonna open her up for the first time and inspect pistons, and replace them if the skirts are worn too much, and rering using Yamaha parts. Im actually wanting the snow to melt cuz at least i could ride my Raptor.

Hey Boondoctor, I live just south east of Stony Mountain. We're Neighbours!!

What's wrong with your shock? My buddy Jim Bouwman just north of Garvin Rd. on the service road which runs along #59 highway is a SHOCK WIZ. He may be able to help you out. His number is 222-3603.

He revalved all of my SXR shocks with progressive valving and they are much better this year. He's doing shock repairs all the time. Call him and you might get in another ride yet!!!

Also,

Head down to Hay Days in September and pick up some spare shocks. You can usually pick them up for reasonable coin. Maybe even a whole sled!! One of the guys in our group picked up a 2003 Viper with 1200 miles on it for $2800.00 US last year!!

Another shock source might be Tony Pinter. He usually has wide array of spare yamaha parts. I don't have his number, but Jim can give it to you.

Cheers,
