I was riding this weekend up at tug hill and I lost my float bowl fell off. I had to run about 2/10 of a mile to get parked so it would be safe to leave to get the truck. I hope this did not hurt my engine to bad.
I did find 1 screw and I am going to get the rest off the screws tonight.
Also my tank vent tube and elbow came off. did anyone ever have this happen before? I never heard of the bowl comming off ! I guess we will I will put some lock tight on the bolts and see how she runs.

I am now home finally but my question is.

1.why did my tank vent elbow come off and my carb bowl come off?

2. I had to run on two cyclinders for 2/10 miles at about 15-20 mph to get to safe spot. 3rd cyclinder had no oil/gas to it for this long. I use yamalube oil.
how bad do you think the engine is?

I will let you know the compression and how I make out once I get it started.

thanks for any help on this issue.
joe

Well I got the thing back together.

I put a clamp on the vent tube so I hope that fixes that problem.

I got the bowl back on and used some locktight and everything seems to be good there. I think someone replaced the reeds on that carb or did something on the carb. that it why I think the bowl fell off.

I have the sled back up and running and the engine seems to rev normal and sounds good. I guess I will find out more once I take it out next year.

fyi..
when you say you "clamped" the vent line...you mean to something ...not "pinched" it off right?
pinching or restricting a ventline will full lean you...burndown..
also...good luck with those little screws after locktightening...normal tightening would have been fine unless the bowl gasket it completely flat....I recommend getting a set of allen headed cap screws from your local hardware...much easier to tighten and no stripping.

You should have still been getting oil to the cyl because oil is injected to the bearings in the bottom end therefor oiling the cyl and you only drove a short distance.
I drove my sled 20km on 2 cyl's and the crankcase was loaded with oil. So I think that you will be alright.

My elbow thing keeps coming out which lets gas leak out. Very irritating. I finally got it to stay in with a wad of duct tape over it but it looks like crap. What adhesive could I glue it in with that gas wont eat at? P.s. Sorry for butting in on your thread man.

Here is what I did.

Once I got back where we were staying I used a hammer and 3/8 socket 6 inch long extention and tapped it in as far as it could go.
On the trail I could only put it in by hand but I got it to stay once I tapped it in 2mm with the hammer.

try this and see how how you make out.

yep, those elbows are just pressed in, so just put it back in the hole and tap it down like he did .

I did that with a 3/8 exten. and a hammer but after about 50 miles the little beeoch came back out. Might have something to do with the trails looking like a washboard!

well if mine comes back out I will use a little parts cleaner ( that will clean the gas and oil off ) and some red lock tight. then we will see how that holds.
