I have a 98' SRX, stock with 20/37 gearing and 1.25 [also 1 less tooth on the track drive sprocket to allow clearance for the taller lugs, but I'm thinking the 1.25 track would make up the difference for the smaller sprocket] I did a search and found the recommended setup:
www primary
RX1 helix [51/43]
4.5gram weights in inner heel [holes] on the stock clutch weights [8dn]
stock red secondary spring set at 70 degrees

Due to my gearing setup I'm thinking I'll have to back off on the secondary to 60 degrees or so but will I be needing to make any other changes b/c of the lower gearing.
I had to order the parts and they aren't here yet but I thought I'd see if anyone had any advice?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thankyou!!
 
That set up won,t work with that low gearing. You are geared ultra low especially with 8 tooth drivers & you can,t get enuff weight into the 8dn-20,s to hit the proper rpm,s. Your gonna overrev huge.

Uh oh!! Should I cancel the helix order or would I be better off going up in the gearing a bit? Or just leave it the hell alone? I'd like to get a bit more out of it as I'm having a heck of a time with an 05' RX1. I'm running dead even with him and so far everything I've tried just makes me slower.

Oh, I'm running the stock springs in the primary and secondary with the secondary backed almost all the way off [can't remember what degree] and removed the rivits from the end of the weights. It pulls up to 8100, then goes up to 8300 and holds there till I run out off gearing.
 
Back the truck up.......you should be overreving huge running stock weights in a SRX with that gearing.98 stock 700 SRX,s ran 9k rpm running stock weights loaded to the nutz with stock gearing. Your rpm,s are perfect right now but your probably hurting your performance by backing off secondary tension. You gotta be running a ateep aftermarket helix or something else going on to run that rpm,s with your set up.

Hmmm, helix is stock, as are the weights in the primary. The bottom sprocket in the chain case is stock [37] but the top sprocket is a 20 [23 is stock]
The previous owner said he had to remove the weight from the end of the primary clutch weight as ya, it was really over revving. I think the stock weights are 8dn-00 with 13 and 17 gram revits. He removed the revits from the heel of the weights and it brought the rpms down.

Removing weight will raise rpm,s. This does not make sense. You got something going on that does not make sense.

Ok, sorry, I had to check my notes [I've done soo much experimenting I forgot :o| !! ]
Yip your right, he ended up going to Yamaha and asking for the heaviests weights they had, and then put 2 shims under the primary spring to raise engagement rpm. The secondary spring pressure is backed off pretty much completely [as in like 0 degrees]

Would I be better off going with a different helix, instead of using the Yamaha 51/43? Would you have any suggestions as to what helix I should be using? Thanks again!!!
 
Your clutching sounds very good right now. You won,t gain much; if anything by changing stuff.
