I have an 02 srx 700 and no matter what, 107 on gps is the best I can do, WHAT TO DO???????? another type of 1" track? less studs? other clutch setup? porting? I shouldnt complain too much as bud ski-doo 800 buds can't touch me, but they're buying mach z's and one buying an attak next year.
stock track
144 studs
transfer rods
viper rear suspension
ohlins with extenstions in front
8dn-20's, 4.5 gm, both holes
48-40 advantage edge helix
70 deg twist, red secondary
right at 8500 rpms

Try the stock rear suspension. Taller suspensions slow down your sled.
What does your speedo show when the gps shows 107?

Another thing, your dcs light does not blink does it?

you installed a track didnt you.
you will need to cut the lugs over the windows for clearance on your guards
it is like riding with the brakes on. i bet your fuel milage is bad also
you can cut them with an olfa snap off blade knife from a hardwar store.

He says stock track....
Id bet its the skid. Even with my expert how eveyrone claims it didnt slow the sled down, you bet it did.
I pulled low 120's on gps on my stock 01 srx. The way its goin back to for next year

top speed
Thanks for the feedback so far. It is the stock track and the sled performs flawlessly and definitely runs real good, Im just surprised to hear about other stock srx's hitting 112-1155ish on gps. I think my rpm's are right on at 8500 so not sure if other weights-spring setups such as 8Bu's would help much on top end.
No probs with the dcs, only has gone off twice in the 2 years Ive owned the sled.
I am considering a 9830 track with studs, but Im guessing that might take off even more top end but gains in acceleration.
If I go with a trail safe porting setup, what can I expect for top speed gains?

that skid is not going to slow you down much if set up right. the sled will only set 1in higher then stock.
things that will slow a sled down are:
track adjustment, side to side and tension.
to adjust the track correctly, go out on a lake or smooth trail. drive the sled and roll to a stop. get off sled and look up at your drivers, you want to make sure your track is centered on the drivers. some sleds with the track tension set so the rear wheels are centered are not centered on the drivers. this causes alot of drag.
as for tension, start with stock, back the bolts out a few more turns. then go out and hammer it. if it doesnt jump the track, back them out some more. keep doing this till the track will jump. then tighten up one turn and run the sled. keep tightening one turn at a time till you see speed fall off.
once you get the track adjusted for speed then check again for center on the drivers.
another thing that robs speed is deep keel skis. the deeper the keel the slower the sled in snow. ice of coarse doesnt matter.
alot of toe out will rob speed as well.
another thing to concider is stud length. a stud that is alot longer than the track lug will slow a sled down, especially on hard pack or ice. your wheels have to roll over each one of them. up and down. energy spent going up and down is not spent going forward. keep stud length to 1/4 or less for top speed. they dont penatrate as much but for speed thats not the point.
low winshields loose speed. my viper with the stock shield was 2mph faster than my shorty.
make sure your skid is really tight, a loose skid will walk side to side and throw off track alignment under load and could shove the track sideways. even a 1/4in is going to make the track bind on the drivers.
8bu weights will do nothing for top end. they are a drag weight, 8dn in any of three versions work good
belt width, clutch aligment, center to center are critical if your trying to get every speck of speed.
a good top speed is either luck or preperation. for some it is both.

Tighten your secondary. That wrap is too loose for running your aggressive clutch set up. Try it at 80 or 90 wrap. Snow conditions also make a huge diff.

what surface were you running on? glare ice and trail will be a huge difference!

LOW 120s!!!!!!!!!? i think your gps is broken. i've seen a well tuned thunder cat only run about 115-117 on ice. and a d&d f7, zr900 and my step dads 00' srx(not stock) all run 107 everytime
i'd say 107 on gps is pretty damn good, just about right for what is done to the sled.

my 98 srx gets 118 - 119 on gps so i would say keep working at her there's definately more speed to be had

I havent run her on bare ice yet so mabe I can get her up to 110 or so. So far, my 107 is on hard railbeds and on a lake with 2" of light fluffy powder over glare ice.
118? Dam thats fast . I already feel 107 is ludicrous speed.

I don't have GPS but I finally had a chance to run mine last weekend on good conditions and it was friggin smokin. I could bury the needle no problem. I know that's 120+ on the dreamOmeter but I know it's moving. And I'm a bit low on the R's as well...
These sleds are friggin rockets!
I know I will be playing with mine a bit more next season. I have been to busy messing with the RX. I think I just might have to pay more attention to this sled next season. I hardly use it cuz of the trail riding we do. But if we stay by the lake Gogebic again...I am bringing this sled along!

Take a perm. marker and put a vertical line on the inside of primary clutch to make sure it's shifting out all the way. Is a stock 02 supposed to be at 8500 r's? It sounds a little high. I would think 82-8250 is the ideal rpm because you're losing hp if over revving. Check to see if your belt is worn and sitting too low in the secondary. If you aren't first owner check you gearing to see if it's stock. If you're ET is quicker than someone that can go 110-112 top speed doesn't matter

Darn Tootin'
Good advice already above, but also make sure the engine is making top power. Power valves and reeds should be checked along with clean carbs.
Also check jackshaft and driveshaft bearings, and the chain and gears.

So whats the deal...Should the RPM,s be at 8500 or 82ish?
I was running at 81-82 and it seemed low to me yet the sled was smokin....
Just wondered what some of you thought on the RPM's and where they should be??

I believe that the 00-02 are supposed to run at a slightly higher rpm than the 98 and 99
