Anyone know how to get all the white oxidation off of aluminum? I just bought a ’93 Exciter II for only $200 but the crank case, chain case and many other cast aluminum parts are covered with a white chalky oxidation. Sled runs great but needs a major clean-up and good tune-up. Is there anything in particular I should know about this sled when I tune it up?

If you can power wash it with a steamer that would help a little then spray
everything down with WD-40 wait a day or two then hose it and wd it again
Tune up i would pull the carbs clean re sync. check cable freeplay oil
pump specs just give everything a good looking over.....

Muratic acid & water mix 50/50 but you have to really rinse it! makes aluminum look like new!

I've heard about this Muratic acid cleanup technique...Where can an average Joe pick some up?...Home Depot...Canadian Tire...Pep Boyz?...curious...I've used the Mothers
Alumiminum clear on some of my parts and wow...what a difference...but other parts need a little more TLC...Curious is all...

Muriatic Acid is commonly used for swimming pools. Even Walmart or Meijer's carries it in season.

I have used Eagle One brand wheel cleaner that is made specifically for cast aluminum. I think the label says "etching cleaner" which is similar to the acid mixture. Works great for me and I have used it on the tunnel with a brush or it leave really clean spots if you just spray it on.

I've used some of that stuff and it made the alum darker in color..

kysledneck do you mean you have to really rinse the parts off after you use muratic acid & water mix 50/50?

If there is a truck stop with a wash for big rigs go there. Tell them to brighten you sled. They use a spray foam that has acid in it. No fuss and no muss and no worries about your paint etc. It shouldn"t be anymore than $10-$20 for it and hassle free.

lol, truck washes in our area get so backed up, and i can just imagine what they would say if i tried bringing a sled in there when they are all trying to make time and have to wait in big lines as it is.
