boring

For what it worth to do it you might be better off selling your sled and up grading to a sxr 700.

My motor is already bored out to a 600. But this guy I know keep telling me it's hurts the motor to do it. He's making me nervous. The sled only has 400 or so miles on it since it was done. Is it bad for the motor??

if the overbore was done right then it's not too likely you will have an problems with it. The 500 and 600 twin have the same lower end. Hauck does 700 big bores on it. I think the rods or crank will be the weak point if your making significantly more power. Just my 2 cents.

i have the 700 in my sled...installed begining of winter. works great...keeps pulling and wont let up...have had it up to 180km and it still wanted to keep going. get vforce reeds though and an after market pipe if you do the 700. believe me its a big jump from 600-700 ( power i mean).

Well, I bought it this way. I don't think it's overkill to have it bored to a 600. I mean the bottom end is the same as the twin 600. I have to check more into what has been done over the years in my sled. But like I said people get me nervous. Although I have to say it will easily beat any 600 you throw at it. That's worth something. What's the difference with the top end??

The heads are a bit different only because of the squish are on the 500 is a bit smaller in diameter. besides that I could not tell a difference between my 600 and a friends 500 that I basically did the same motor work on. My pistons were just significantly larger in diameter.

That sounds good. Anyone know what diameter the pistons are between 500 and 600?? If not know where I could find the info?

Bore @ stroke;

500 is- 68X68mm [2.68 x 2.68in] Com. 6.5:1

600 is-74X68mm [2.94 x 2.68in] Com.6.0:1

that what you looking for????????

yep, thanks!! I don't believe it's just bored to a 600. I think it's over that because it's faster then my buddies 600 HO rev, both of us have clutch kits. So I figured I would check it out when I get time. The sled tops out at 106mph or so. It has the original crappy yoko track so it's not hooking up all that good. (looking to replace it this summer.) I just don't see a 600 twin hitting 106mph especially when I weigh 230lbs. or so. I gotta find out where the goods are hidden in this thing! I want it to go faster!! I was thinking about making it a 136" since it needs a new track anyway. Any ideas on what to do to it??

Only way to really tell is tear it apart. You might have a sleeper big bore on your hands.

Mine has only hit the mid 90's. Same worn out 3/4 yoko track and I also weight in at 230. I've got a AC quiet track similar to the 1" 9830 Camoplast in the box waiting for a free weekend to install it.

Anytime you add horsepower you are in theory going to be taking away available life of the engine, but a good big bore kit (not tweaked to the ragged edge for 500' runs) should run for thousands of miles with general maintenance.
