Maybe double that amount but the sled market is a bit low at the time.
You might need a lot of parts so break even may be the only thing possible. The engine bearings are not cheap and there mey be other costlier issues you mey need to pay someone to fix or repair. I'd try to knock it down a lot more. Say $700 because there is possibily ((crank asm $886, (or $254,$126, $125 for the 3 pieces, the crank bearings are $120,$120, $112, $110, 2x$113, $153 and $122 respectivily.) Rods are $43 each bearings $12 each, Pistons are $94, $18, $12 and $2 and you need 3 of them.)) as much as $1346 parts needed in the motor alone.
You could make money if there was not much wrong or you just wanted to fix it and flip it.
Good luck either way.

I might be pistons. I think a bottom end problem would have had it explode before long

i agree, get him down a little on the price. That way you have a little more cushion if things get expensive.

well somebody else offered him 1000 for it so he told me he would sell it to me for 1000 if i wanted it because i was the first to look at it also the knock is in the top half of the motor
The old "someone else will give X $ amount" Ask him why he did not take it? Pull out $800 cash and wave it around especially if his wife is near by... It Has worked before.. especially when its a beautiful day.. 60 degrees...birds singing and its lawn mowing season again. I bought a 6 year old sled that ran great one time in may for $500... I drove it for 9 years and never had a problem with it. Summer and some cash does strange things to some folks..
