I'm looking to update my 01 single head light to the 02 and up dual head light. Has anyone done this mod? If so is it really hard to do? I don't know if I can just splice into the existing wiring or if something else needs to be done??

I don't believe you can just add leads for a second headlight.

The stator in the older single headlight machines are putting out less power than the dual headlight designs. I know some that had to go to LED tail lights just because the went to higher wattage bulbs much less a second light. Another issue is wiring. I expect the wire size and ampacity of the single light design is smaller/lower than the dual and you risk drawing too much current through the stock harness.
Finally is performance. If your drawing twice the power for the headlight it's being robbed from somewhere. There aren't too many things on the sled that use electricity. Lights, grip warmers and ignition. It's possible your going to effect the operation of the CDI.

The addition of a second light efects the entire electrical system.

Couldnt you just by a new 300W lighting coil form a more modern twin blulb yamaha? Then just go from there with the twin bulb setup, following the stock style waring and all that.

I was thinking of doing this myself for some time and looked into it. Looks liek the best way would be to go find a scrapped sled and take the whole top end off it including headlight shround, coil, etcc....., all of it!

I for got who it was but xsome one has done it on here they had to change the stator and a few other things

just get a 55/100 watt bulb, that way you've got the extra light when you need it, and don't have so much draw on the system when you don't.

the mag is marginal at best with the higher draw, but it functions
