wow, it looks really good.

as far as things to look for, if you can, pull the plugs and slowly roll the motor over, feel for hangy spots, the crank bearings where weaker on the 97's than on the later years.

That said, my father has one that he's put 15,000km's on, so draw your own conclusions.

Thank you! I am really looking foward to getting a 2nd Yamaha! I have redone about everything on this 97 600 twin so working on the tripples will be all new for me, That is why I wanted a Yamaha, I know how to take apart & reassemble it pretty good & because this site helps out so much I cannot remember getting an answer answered on a Polaris site about the pro x! Thanks again I hope it all works out!

I had one, put on 5000 trouble free miles. Check the W arm on the suspension. It could be cracked, have the welds re-welded either way.

^^^Yup,you may want to keep the oil pump on the rich side too..i would :)

Look on the running boards where the trailing arms meet up with the tunnel, iv seen quite a bit of sleds with these bent slightly and rivets popped. Then check by the shocks to see if there is any holes from branches and other objects penetrating the plastic (seen that one too). Look at the track, this will show how it was ridden, and jsut general cleanliness of the sled.

With that said, from the looks of the pics, the pipe was re-painted in a gloss black, and from what iv seen, iv never seen a high temp gloss black paint, so you might want to check that one out..

Ask why the windsheild was replaced and looks for cracks in the cab, etc...

Maybe check suspension compnents, and clutches if he lets you look at them...

put it on it's side and look for damage to the bulkhead and tunnel. check the w-arm, and make sure it runs on 3. The y-pipe and pipe were definitely painted. and ditch the steel ski's.

He told me he just painted the pipe for the ad, Said it was not real rusty but it deffinatly had rust on it! I have been wanting to Swain coat ( White Lightning) on my 97 600 but I would probably do this one instead! Might take all the Viper shocks off the 600 also Orange hood, Black seat, etc! Why the rich on the oil setting DMAN?

As Junior stated, the crank bearings where weaker on the 97's
than on the later years. I think the deal was that '97's used two small ones and post '97 used one big one, some '97's could fail premature. so i would
keep her on the rich side...$.02 :)

I wouldn't worry tho,,i'd buy one in a second............

its not gloss, its wet. check the trailer and rest of sled and you'll see it was wet. people like to spray things down (supposedly cleaning them) before they sell em, and then theres those who think armorall brings another grand or so, haha! i dunno about the track there, but why the two studs and nothing else?

He said in the ad lightly studded, I guess for a little traction on ice covered pavement when getting gas???! LOL! I figued they steamed cleaned under the hood! But yea I did see the water!

Those are great sleds. Check for all the things everyone else mentioned, and buy that baby up. They are great sleds.

Nice attention to detail there, I couldnt tell it was wet, especially from the rest of the pics, they wudnt enlarge for me.

Thats not the stock track either. Wasnt the stock one a Yokohmama like the one with .75" lugs that came on my sled?

You'll love the sound of that engine and the wide powerband and smooth pull will probably make you not want to ride that 600 twin anymore!I am going to put a clutch kit and probably notch the reed stoppers in mine before next winter.I have been told I could pick up 1-2 mpg with a pioneer performance clutch kit, plus more pull.As I see it with the price of gas you can't go wrong.Good luck with everything!

any good clutch setup will use less fuel in general riding conditions because you are essentially improving the efficiency for your desired riding style (more power transferred to the ground, less power you have to put in for a given speed).

Yamaholic, have you heard anything good or bad about pioneer performance clutch kits? They seem like a decent deal and he has been excellent to deal with on other items I have needed. How about notched reed stoppers or spacers do they effwct fuel mileage in your experiences?
