Has anyone purchased this kit from Tracks USA? It looks like a pretty good deal. I have heard good things on TY about the Tracks USA rail extensions. I am wondering about their tunnel extension and the Predator track. The Ripsaw track seems to be the rage lately.

you need to extend your 121" sled to 136".
 
I don't think the TracksUSA tunnel extension is a good one. No provision for the cooler hoses, so I'm told. Nobody really makes a 136" extension, both Hartman's and Mountain Performance's ( even their shortest one ) is really more suited to a 141" extension. I'm comparing this to a Renegade or an MXZ 136'ed ( which I have ) which gives about 8" behind the seat. The problem with the Vipers is that you have the cooling exchangers in the running boards, and the two have to be connected, so you need hose covers to cover the hoses. I'm going to use a Mountain Max tunnel extension, which isn't any shorter, but it is cheaper ( new or used ). I'd like to take the time and money and do it like the 06 RMK's where they run up right behind the seat, drop down through the tunnel into a tunnel mounted exchanger, but it's probably more friggin' around than it's worth. Everyone does swear by the rail extensions though. Check out Camoplast web site or ask around on the track; I know some of their tracks are listed as soft trail / off trail, so you wouldn't want one of them if you're mostly running hardpack.
 
Ditto on the rails and tunnel ext. I'm planning to do the same and will go with the track USA rails, but will look elsewhere for the tunnel ext. I was hoping to find a tunnel ext made for a 136, but i guess that's not possible.

I'm getting started on mine now. The only alternative I can see is to take a MM tunnel extension, and have someone make one about 3 inches shorter. Because you have to use hose covers, I don't think you can shorten the existing. The depth at both ends would have to remain the same, you would just have a shorter distance in between. The hose covers would have to be shoved towards the front of the sled to account for the three inches you took out. When I get mine apart, I may mock this up in cardboard or thin aluminum to see how this would work.
 
1badz, You are right. I called Tracks USA to inquire about their tunnel ext. and was told that they do not have the holes for the cooler lines. They do have two length tunnel ext.s 7.5" and 12". I do not know how these lenghts compare with the Mt. Performance or Hartman.

I have read all of the posts on tunnel ext.s, and like you, think that the Mt. Perf. is the one to go with for the money.

If I am reading the Mt. Perf. web site right, they are selling 136 x1.25 Ripsaw tracks for $300.00. I may have to call them to be sure, because that would be a killer price.

One tip on the ripsaw. Don't have one, but I've heard the Arctic Cat design is a much quieter track. It's not an Arctic Cat exclusive, so that might be what they're selling. Just a though.
 
The Cat track with the "silencer knobs" on it is a super quiet track I have a regular ripsaw on my viper and a quiet one on the xtc - it makes a huge difference.
 
you guys worried about the length of the extensions without knowing why they are that length are not seeing the big picture. if the extension is too short and your suspension collapses all the way it is going to rip off your short extension, cause damage to the track, suspension, rearflap, rear cooler and tunnel. hartman & mpi make tunnel estensions for 136 sleds. just ask for them. there are three lengths of extensions. 136, 141-144, and 151. you want that extension out there anyway when you add a roof cooler (like out of a mountain max) or the rear srx exchanger you want that extra length out there to "trap" the snow flow from the track to hit the exchanger. without snow contact in the trunnel the rear exchanger is useless. dont make mistakes, learn from others who have done this and have worked the bugs out. it will cost you more time, money and effort to get this done "your way". buy a kit and augment it to your needs. tell them you only want the extension, mounts, rivets, and hose covers. get your rail extensions from the vendor of your choosing. (i prefer tracks usa rail ext, but would not consider their tunnel extension in my opinion.) get your hoses from napa. it is so nice and easy to install parts made for your application rather than fabbing and fiddling (and cobbling) up other stuff to fit. ski

You are not going to collapse a suspension and rip off an 8" extension. If 11" of extension is adequate for a 144" track, then 8" is sufficient for a 136" ( 144-136=8 inches then divide that by 2 = 4" and you have a 144" track that protrudes aprox. 4" further back then a 136" track. So if you have a 136" track that is roughly 4" shorter than the 144", what's the problem with the tunnel being 3" shorter. Ski-doo has certainly made enough Renegades with 8" of tunnel extension. As regards to the snow being trapped, the flap is what stops the snow. If the cooler is at the flap, what difference does it make if it's 8" or 11" from the seat. On a mountain machine a bit of extra tunnel extension doesn't look out of place; it does on a 136" Viper.

After three phone calls to MPI, I finally convinced someone to measure what they call a "136" extension. They measure a 136" extension at 16" and a 141" extension at 19". He really couldn't give me a behind the seat measurement, but he figured about 4" or 5" of overlap on the factory tunnel, which would make the 136" ext aprox. 11" behind the seat and the 141" aprox. 14" behind the seat. Not trying to convince anyone else that this is wrong for them; it's just not what I'm looking for.

a real 136" extension is 7.5" long behind the seat. i have a maxx one on my viper (out of business now, try and get one before they are gone!). i dont like the too long ones either. i have bottomed mine a couple times and my 1.75" track has yet to touch the srx cooler or guards.
 
here are some more numbers for you guys to consider, as i think you may want too. and also may want to reconsider ski's advise about using proven methods.

i used tracksusa extension. they have worked prefectly for me. great fit, durable, and i like the fact that the hyfax extends the entire length of the slider (other do not).

the tunnel extension, well, i made my own (thats why i suggest considering others input). i have a buddy that works at a machine shop bend it for me, it cost me $25 for a piece polished diamond plate alum. and a few beers. BTW, i asked him if he would be interested in making more extensions to sell, and he told me NO WAY, not for a 100 bucks and he has been at shops for over 25 years-alot of experience but he did mention it was difficult because of the diamond plating, metal wanted to creep in break. my point is, just make sure you know what your getting into when you customize.

measurements of extension (the important thing here is whether or not your installing a rear heat exchanger, as i did): from the end of the existing tunnel 11", from the back of the seat approx 10 3/4", from the reflector on side of tunnel approx 19 1/8". now about not collapling the suspension or doing any damage. i thought that the track would NEVER hit the rear heat exchanger when riding, WRONG. first ride out studs hit it, barely, but it took little bits out of the fins, dont forget that is with 11". it now has protectors.

hoses. i just used auto heater/radiator hose and put a spring in it so it cant collapse. not familiar with the hose napa sells, may have prefabed bend in it? also wrapped hose with stell braiding. had some left over form doing my car, figured a little more protection.

hose covers, yami MM stockers.

Would it be possible to modify the tracks USA tunnel extension to accept the Viper rear cooler???
 
I had a Tracks USA 136 extention on my Viper and it had the cooler holes!!, I did have to oblong them slighty but no big deal.

Must have changed soomething in the later runs
 
Question for anyone who has extended to a 136" viper.....Does your sled fit in a 10' enclosed trailer??? Or is it too long??

you would have to modify the cooler, even then i dont know how you would mount the flap. the part where the snow flap rivets too is too short for the cooler and the cooler would hang below that piece. if your not studding, a flat m-max cooler can be made to work.
