What do you think the average cost for dyno time is? Looking to have my SR292 motor speced out. My local yamaha dealer has a track dyno, but he and I dont see eye to eye, so that option is out. All the other motor dyno's in my area are for the go-karts and are limited to the 40-45hp range. In short, I would like to send the motor and pipe out and have someone run it, play with the timming and see what this thing really can do. So far, I've been in contact with steve decker and he quoted $350 for an hour of time. What do you think?

i don't know how far away you are from srxspec but if you check out his website he's got some numbers listed for the first 3 runs as a flat $75 and then additional runs cost $40/hour. pm him about it and check out his website.

Mike weindant out of fondulac,wi who builds alot of vintage motors and some of the top one's he also worked for polaris when needed.I think he has some kind of special rate for a whole day.Not sure but though it was 600.

srxspec is atleast 5 hours away, and is a track dyno. At this point, I am not exactly sure where the motor should be running, so I thought the best step would be to have it tested first. Then If I cant seem to figure out the clutch and gearing to keep the motor in its optimum, next would be the track dyno

monty your on the right track with engine dyoning first we spent a whole day wasted track dynoing and couldn't get it right the following day we put it on the engine dyno and picked up 15 hp.

where did you have it done? I heard there is a guy here in the St. Cloud area with a land and sea dyno, but thats gonna act simular to the track dyno's
its a shame my yamaha dealer wont work with me, he's only 4 miles from my house.

well, i think the guy with the land and sea is another racer here in the area... HMMMM perhaps not the best idea.
Boomer recommend bikman also. they are close to where I skydive in WI so that is an option also, but $250 minimum

In MI, Carl Galloway is very easy to work with, walls of pipes to test and knows a bunch.
Two sleds ALL DAY on the engine dyno for less then decker told you.
If your thinking of pulling the engine, pipe,cdi...
and shipping to someone, I'd call Doug Flannery and ship it to him.
If you have the money, engine dyno then track dyno.
If money is tight, the track dyno will work. But with track dynos it's hard to see the little gains with engine mods. With the track dyno you have to find a base hp with repeatable pulls. Then tinker with engine mods. Keep in mind what that engine mod should do when looking for more power. Say you took a 1" off the header pipe, make a base pull, now adjust clutching for a bit more rpm and repull... and so on.

The track dyno can show lots of info if your looking for it. I have found cranks out of phase, cdi problems, carb issues... all with a track dyno.

toy doc. yea money is really tight this summer. building a nother racer this summer - stock et300 (wink wink) for the 0-300 cc stock class. although that will not be as expensive a build as the SR292 was, I need to keep my SR budget under the $400 mark this summer.
Anyway, I just really want to see what this motor is all about and know what rpms to run it at. Once I know that, I can work on the rest this winter! I already expect that my timming is not optimum and maybe I could find a better pipe builder...... But unless i see this thing on the dyno, I'm just guessing.
Can you pass along the contact information for Carl and Doug
thanks

There are 2 people here with L&S setups, and generally you're gonna spend 3 to 400 to get the job done right. I used to have a dyno set up, but there wasn't enough call for it around here, not to mention there are 3 local set ups with 901 Superflows so most people didn't want anything to do with a L&S.

Mike W. has a nice set up, thats why he's pricy.
