R6 vs. R6S?

alright i called and got insurance quotes.
06 r6 $1,700 full coverage
06 r6 $275 liability only
06 r1 $2,800 full coverage
06 r1 $275 liability only
06 fz1 $800 full coverage http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelimage/7/6/1/0/image.aspx http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelimage/7/10/1/0/image.aspx

so, what do you guys think of the fz1? im not paying for full coverage on a full fairing bike and am a bit worried about not having good coverage on a $8,000+ bike. the fz1 is reasonable to insure and has 150+hp and although it doesnt look as good as the r1 and r6 it aint bad.

hmmm, fz1 and full coverage = more comfortable and should be faster than a r6 (espically bottom and mid range!). the only other option is a r6 (same price) and frame sliders and worry about it getting damaged. talk me into the fz1 guys!

U should have bought mine last year. :Moon:

I could've traded ya straight up for my Kawi. :Moon: LMAO ;):D

I've currently got my sites set on a different 05 R6. It's the Raven Black with Hindle exhaust and some other goodies for $7K. It's more than I'm really wanting to spend on a bike, but might as well get the one with the SWEETEST paint job ever. You've got me thinking though from the other day when we were talking bikes. Maybe I should just swing for the '06 R6. :WayCool:

ask tom, he's cruising on an FZ1

IMO they kick ***, awesome bike.

I'm sure you can get a full fairing kit for it aftermarket to if you really want one.

i quickly stopped at the yamaha dealer before work yesterday and looked at the 06 r6 and an 05 fz1. first off i wouldnt buy the 05 fz1, its just not the least bit good looking! ill ask if he has an 06 to look at today. i was really suprised how small the r6 was. i mean it looks like i could throw it in the back seat of my truck! lol! ill have to sit on it or perhaps ride one. im not sure how comfortable it will be for me (6'1") espically since i drive 50 miles round trip for work and i do plan on just bumming around on my days off. i did notice the gsxr 750 next to it looked a bit roomier, but again i didnt sit on it. ill have to spend some time looking and sitting on a few bikes and see what fits me good. hopefully its a yamaha, but if its not, suzuki and honda should both be good too!

the 06 fz1 is totally new.it would be better for cruising thats forsure.50 miles on the r6 wouldnt be a problem but 100 miles your butt might be asking you to stop for a break.also your hands might be numb if your cruising on the highway.the 750 is slightly better on ergo's but has weak power down low.if you rode the 750 and then the 1000 you would pick the 1000 no question.decisions suck lol .thats why i have two now.the fz1 would be the best of both worlds if you want good power and comfort.you just have to like the looks of it.if you pull the huge rear fender off the tail section it will make it look alot better.it has the same style exhaust as the r6 now.

yeah this is tough. i sat on a super hawk 996 and a zzr600 and they were better than a r6 for comfort, but not enough to make up for the power difference. the dealer wont have a fz1 until early may either and he has been pre selling a lot of them. what part are you talking about removing on the fz1? where the plate mounts? like i said before its not bad looking, i just like the looks of the r6 a lot more. if you could only have one which one? so drag racing 0-80 how close are they? lol!

In a 0-80 race the better rider will win. I dont know how the FZ's tranny is geared, but at 80mph on an R1 your not out of 1st gear unless you shortshifted to "try" to keep the front end down. :WayCool:

yep thats what i was going to say.depends on rider r6 versus fz1.both are same h.p basically but the fz1 is 80lbs heavier.but has more power, torque low and should pull you out front.both will get you to 80 in a hurry though.like he said on the r1 i've done 90 in 1st gear thats faster then most harleys :)

I've seen fz1s at track days here and there, they corner pretty good, not like a r6 or r1 but still pretty good, also some guy was racing one at Brainard last year and finished in the top 10, I think the rider has more to do with a bike being what they want than the bike does, one thing you have to decide, is it about the ride or about the bike, for me it's about the ride. you seem to be droping down from the bike you want, yes money comes into play, and need to be high on the list, but like I said before, is it about the ride,or the bike, is it about how you look, or how people look at you. It's up to you which bike to get, they all would be great. the r1 is more comfy on the interstate, (your comfort)

I dont think comfort is of any importance to him.
well it is a little. i talked to yamaholic22 and he is about the same size as me and he says his r6 is pretty comfortable for him. now im leaning more towards the r6-r1. i just want a sport bike. maybe when im older ill want something more practical, but until then i can live with it. still not totally sure on brand, it kind of depends on price. yammie and honda are on the top of the list though.

Looks like it runs good though, spins the 240 series dunlop pretty easy

i did see that but he had to have dumped the clutch to lay that streak.i havent tried that yet on my warrior ( something is wrong with me :) but i think it will no problem.i should wait until i go on a harley ride.it was always funny when we took the r1's on the rides and they would be trying to do burnouts.and then we hop on and do standing rolling burnies to wheelies.talk about getting evil looks. i think yamaha and honda have the metric cruiser market locked up.

for those with speedtv this sun. at 10 a.m starts motorcycle racing with world superbike, ama superbike, ama super cross.if you go to their site its got times for each race.will be some great racing.

woofer.the 06 fz1 is brand new ground up with alot of r1 stuff to make it handle like a stripped down r1.the old one was just a street bike with r1 motor.still a great bike for riding but not hard.

WSBK is looking good for this weekend, Valencia is a tight enough circuit that the suzuki's wont get much of a chance to stretch their legs. if I was a gambling man I'd put Bayliss down for the win, but it's hard to call, never know when Haga is gonna flash.

I get the same looks on the few poker runs I go on in the summer. The Harleys are thick in South Dakota. U get to listen to these guys talking about how fast their big inch motor is, with the loud pipes, S&S this and that, this cam so on and so fourth. These are the same guys that get a run at U from behind to try to pass U so they can look cool to the rest of their Harley friends. I like to drop a couple of gears when I hear them comming and make them look like beeaches(on safe streches of road) ;). I can ride with any group of people, but some of the Harley guys just dont get it and are a little too arrogant(sp) for me. ;):D

I just laugh when the Harley and Cruiser guys start talking about thier BIG V-twins, and how they almost "rip" your arms off. And you're right, ALOT of Harley's in this state, there's even one in my garage(dads Fatboy). ;):D
