Anyone have any suggestions on what to do to get the trailing arms and other silver front end parts looking good. This winter with no snow didn't keep me from riding (when there was at least some snow)so they all got a good wear on them this year. Plus they were all getting rusty around the edges, usuall wear. I really don't know where there is a place to powder coat around me at all. Any suggestions?? Maybe something I could do myself?

How bad's the rust,,if it's just surface stain i think a rubbing compound from
the auto parts store should do tthe trick.

how bad are they.. well when I said I had alittle wear on them due to little to no snow this winter I actually meant I was drag racing in the woods over everything with no snow.. you can figure out the rest!! they are very banged up underneath. One of them has a gouge from a tree about 9 inches long that is rusted. other then that it's just the basic rusty spots at the coners like they all do.

Already Saved!! I'm not sure if I should paint the whole arms or let it go with just touch up.. Have to see how bored I get this summer ;)!

Wow nice!!! I have been looking for paint for awhile now!! Thanks!

^^^ NP ;)!

Max i bought a spray can, i'ts enough to do a trailing arm and more.
you would just need a new decale to put back on....

May want to buy some clear too not shure how it would look with out it..

just use painters tape to cover the deacal an you should always use a clear prevents it from fading

Believe it or not. I took my trailing arms off last summer and the control arms also. Sanded them and primed them properly with good primer. Let dry properly, then sanded with 400 grit wet sandpaper then cleaned up.They were silver originally. I bought Tremclad rust paint in navy blue and applied at least 10 coats to everything, with proper drying times in between Then I put on about 3 coats clear to protect the paint. With 3500 plus km's on them last season,I can't complain. Sure the front of spindles and the control arms that are exposed to the front does get nailed with snow and crap. I just touch that up with same paint from a can with a foam brush, works great.Trailing arms are still in mint condition. I will wet sand the areas in the front and touch up properly this summer.
LOOK at the pic. :WayCool: :WayCool: ;):D helps

I think I will end up painting them. I was thinking of maybe having a buddy of mine that owns a line x store paint them with that. Not sure though as it may ad too much weight. He can match the yami blue too.

If you are worried about the extra weight from the paint, which is so small, loose a few extra pounds before next season. If need be I could ask my cousin, who is an auto body spray painter to put a high quality coating on mine,if I decide to change color...like orange or something, maybe green...pink..ah we'll see.How about flouresent orange, that would be cool or a metallic blue, :WayCool: :WayCool: or fire engine red. ;):D helps

LOL...Max buddy, your worried about paint adding weight i'm i reading
that right????

if your woried about paint adding weight then maybe you shold strip every piece on your sled that is made of aluminum if you have time you could polish it im sure if you strip the paint of the engine head it will go alot faster less weight means more speeed right .. also remember every 7 pounds of paint you remove adds the equivalent of one horse so get scraping

I had both arms, complete skid, stearing arms, powder coated for like $120 dollars! No chips or signs of rust, As far as weight I think there is 100's of things to worry about more to lighten up than paint in its dried state! Hell they paint top fuel drag cars!

The Line X I was talking about is not paint. It's a very thick rubberized truck bed liner material with rust/damage inhibitors. Knowone has heard of it or used it?? But it only goes on as thick as you spray it. My trailer is completely sealed with it. It now can be done in colors, not just black. You can pretty much use it on anything you want. But it is definitely much heavier then paint. I don't care about the weight. I care about the thickness effecting suspension/steering performance. If my buddy can spray it on thin enough I'd do it though. I want to powder coat but I cannot find any place that does this anywhere near me. None of the metal shops or body shops around me know of anyone that does it, so I can't even find a place to ship the parts to to do it. There was a place right around the corner from me and they don't do it anymore.

If u tape over the decal, if there is no rust under it u can wire wheel the rusty areas use some type of "rustolium " primer and then spray them. For the radius rods u can paint them and then get the plastic covers that will stop the scratching but imo they look like s$$t. I'd rather repaint them every couple of years.
