My thread on snowest

Same questions to you guys.

EDIT:
I think I found out what the problem was. While removing the oil/throttle/brake cable I found where the bracket that holds the oil cable in place down near the oil pump had busted. I believe that since my oil cable was now free to move it was not allowing the oil cable to fully pull the oil pump pully. Which is what I think led to my lack of lubrication and corresponding blown crank, center piston, and center cylinder.

Maybe a load of bad fuel. Broken ring a lot of time is caused by detonation which is caused by bad fuel or not enough octane. Put another jug on it, new pistons, rings, etc and crank seals. Clean the carbs high test fuel and go.

Appears to be to lean, causing detonation at the squish band area. Did this happen at WOT or part throttle?
Also what jetting are you running?

Don't know fer sure what happened, but as I posted previously about marble is fer $hit when protecting exhaust side of cylinders! Especially if your lean! I think the stuff vaporises at a lower temp than most oils, causing premature wear on the exhaust side of the cylinder/rings. I had 2000 miles, and the rings were shot, showing signs of blow bye.

my center cyl did the same thing at elevation. the guys that work for yamaha doing 07 demos' used to own the local yamaha dealer as well. he stated the head design at elevation caused the issue and since the vipers came out he has rebuilt over 100 with the exact issue. it is caused by a combination of, head design, elevation, fuel quality, timing ect... which causes detonation.

mine even had aftermarket heads and pipes, and he said that usually cures the ailment above. i explained i ran a tempaflow, and he stated "there is your full problem". said the compensators like that, do not work properly at elevation and that was why mine went down. he said they may work fine at lower elevations where the oxygen levels are higher but, up there (10k-12k') they do not work correctly and cause more problems than help. my .02 ski

Hey 01sxr700, is that laker from greenwater, superior, ignace area?

No, it's from a small lake up Spruce River Rd that goes north of town. Sounds like u know this area, where r u from?

i had a similar problem with my 750cc mmax with pipes v force reeds and peak head with 18cc domes(about 170 compression) ibroke the ring lands on two pistons, center and magneto side and the pto piston was burned on the exhaust side(front of the piston) i think its like a snowball effect to much compression+bad fuel=to high temp=detonation=even higher temp.hope you find a solution. its still winter in iceland.

01sxr700 nice laker!

Wouldn't have been Tease, or Onion Lake would it?
Have you ever been out west off the sapawe/upsala road?
Thats where I usually setup camp.

Lake was Little Moraine,
and I have been known to go out that way.
What is it that u set up camp 4?

Got some property up there, and we stay for a week usually. It's a sweet deal, no other private land for 30km in any direction. Old gold mine property.

wow, what a thread jack! from viper burn down, to fishing and camping. now back to your regular scheduled programming. cm'on guys we are here to help this gent out with his motor. if you'd like to talk about side issues, please pm one another. ski

Sorry bout that! Yea looks like a detonation problem. But I still don't like marble, don't think it's worth a $hit. Zeremba race team quit using it the first year cause of two blown motors. Both motors had broken rings. Mine didn't break the rings, but had serious wear on both the rings and the lands. All three pistons had to be replaced, along with the rings. One cylinder had to be re nicked. All this with a grand total of 2800 miles. Granted I run my motors on the lean side, but this is still not acceptable. M2C.

if there is any chance that the bracket off a 97 700sx is the same, I have one for you. I will have to check to be sure but i think my new pump came with the bracket so you are welcome to the other one.
