cut and weld steering post

has any one tried doing this? seems like a better route than pivot riser and better numbers for rider forward. just cut the steering post above hoop and make a 30 degree wedge and weld the steering post so it goes straight up form there.
 
if your confident in your welding skills then go for it! it isnt any different than what they do from the factory.
 
if you gusset the sh!t out of it and are a really good welder.theres tons of stress on the coloumn.i went with a chrome moly 2" rise after snapping mine.i also had 6" of rise .a pivot is nice so you can change it but if your happy with a angle try it out.post some pics if you get it done.
 
My buddy has welded and re-welded his steering post on his SRX, and it never works, even by professional welders. He had to buy a whole new column to solve the problem of it cracking.
 
take the right hit and it snaps you could get hurt.sen a guy get air lifted because he did this.snapped of on landing.Thought he could weld. spend the money on right part safty is no wear to cut corners.
