Actually the biggest difference in timming is @ 8000 rpm. The viper box is 8-9 degrees higher than the SRX box at this point. At 8500 the timming is only 5 degrees more than the SRX box. Like I said, the SRX timming is perfect for a sled with tripple pipes on pump gas. You have to use pipes that run below 8600 rpm. Bender's are the only aftermarkets that do. So if you have benders, the benifits would be great. I'm positive you could jet way down, especially on the pilots, with the SRX box. This would give better mileage and power than with the current viper box.
Extra timming does give more power to a certain extent. Actually if you were running straight racing fuel, the viper box would be close to what you need.
Finding the best combination for the fuel you are running is what we are talking about.
The tripple pipes fill the cylinder with alot more mixture than the single pipe, thus more power. But this also causes increased running compression, where the pipe is working best. The stock single pipe can use alot more timming with pump gas because running compression is alot lower. When you switch to the tripple pipes you need to do something to prevent detonation, pipe manufactures have chosen to richen the mixture to prevent detonation(Cheapest). The right way would be to adjust the timming so a fuel mix ratio of 12:1 can be utilized. At the price of fuel, the SRX box looks like a great deal, probablly paying for itself in a couple of weekends!!!!!!
If you call bender they would say HOGWASH, our pipes work great the way we tell you to run them, thus not admitting there is a better way. Then say to yourself, well why does an SRX have the same power, and 3-4 MPG better?
I would only do this mod with the bender pipes, all others are running too much RPM for the SRX box.
I guess we will never know until someone tries it out.
