Anyone Polished their sleds Rails??

I was thinking about polishing my vipers rails. What polish did you use (Mothers, etc,) and did you take the skid apart or do it right on the sled?

i thought about doing mine, but got them powdercoated chrome instead. it looks like metallic ceramic exhaust coating. polishing them and keeping them looking good would be a lot of work! my next set will be anodized!
 
polishing works well, if you keep them clean after each ride. mine havent been polished in 2 years and they look close to what they did when i originally did them. but i keep them clean and dry too. ski

I keep my sled clean like yours. Can I polish the rails right on the sled? I don't see why not, it's just alot of bolts and wheels to go around. Did you use a polish wheel?
 
I think the only way to do a good job polishing the rails would be to pull the skid and take the rails off so that you get a good even polish on them without having to mess around eith going around obstacles and reaching in there.
 
the hard to polish around areas can be removed from the rails with the skid in the sled. take your time and do a thorough job around the bolts. i did mine with the skid out but never took any arms off the rails, other than the transfer rods,the wheels and mounts for the wheels. you'd be hard pressed to find an area i didnt polish well. ski
 
I like to start off with mothers, and finish with semi-chrome. The semi-crome seems to be kinda waterproof as well, and the shine sticks.
 
u guys have to much time on ur hands i dont work on it till i hit somthing or hear a weird sound coming from some where and thats still to much time compaird to how much i ride. i dont have the time to polish wax and all that otehr crap to my sled. when i have time and snow im on it and when theres no snow i dont even wanna look at it insted i bust out my Pb gun and play with that
 
I polish everything that can be with Mothers. Rails, clutch cover, brake lever, tunnel and SLP pipes. Also I removed the steering arms that attach to the spindles (can't rememimber what they are called), filed smooth than sanded and polished (really annal I know). All the rubber is TurtleWaxed with wet'n black. Paint polished and Black plastic armor all'd. It is easy to keep up once it is all done. I have have always sold my sleds for lots more $ and faster than my buddies sold their exact same sleds for. I also do it because when a group of strangers ride up and ignore my buddies newer "hoter" sleds and ask about my "old" Viper it makes my day.

I have the same problem with my sled. It looks like new even after 350 miles on the trail of all conditions.
 
I am with terret. just plain don't have time to polish my sled. I bought it to ride. when the conditions are wrong for the sled they are usually right for the jeep. I don't see where the polished spiffy looking sleds are pulling in that much cash for resale anyway. Just not worth the effort given my situation. But I can relate, I used to do that with my hot rods....
 
Out here in Colorado we have mag-cloride(spelling?) on the roads. With that stuff if a sled is not kept polished or at least washed off after hauling down the Highway, it will trash your sled in a couple of years. Polishing is less hassle than washing in sub freezing temps. When riding in deeppowder I also get less ice and snow build up. Just a couple of reasons other than ego to polish.
