Does anyone know the size of the nut that is on the outside wheels. None of my sockets fit it as they are all to small.....

What venture do you have?.
My XL has the cast aluminum wheels that ride in sets in between the slide rails and along side the rails in pairs of two. My rear axel nuts are 19mm, and 17mm, just liek from the factory.
If you are talking about the bogey wheeels not on the rear axel, and its not a sled liek mine, than Im not sure what it is, but I think the size of socket to take them off was a 21mm or something really large like that

It is a 2000 XL 500.
I am talking about the bogey wheels that are towards the front of the rails, not the rear axle. If it is not too much trouble is there anyway you can verify the size before this weekend?!?!
If not, not big deal I will go pickup a 21MM socket and start from there. Thank you for the reply!

I'm thinking you're going to want a 12 or 14 mm socket, unless the cast wheels use a larger bolt?!?! My sleds aren't here to check though. 21mm is close to 7/8" (but not close enough to use probably)

The socket I use to take off the bogey wheel nuts is a 24mm. Works like a champ everytime!
Look at my pic also, if you look closely guys, you can see how big these things really are.

Good to hear ya got them off!
If you change bearings in those wheels, I find that the aluminum style wheels, which is the ones you have, are easiest to put new bearings in.

Well I had 6 wheels that were shot.
3 had rubber peeling
3 had bad bearings, 1 was fixable with some penetrating stick free stuff I had in the garage.
Over 5,000 miles and they are all the original wheels. Not to bad.
