Hey Everyone
-i Bought A '96 Vx600dx Last Year For A Decent Price And Was Wondering What To Check For To Ensure The Sled Is Good To Go.
It Is In Mint Condition Bodywise And Puts Out 125-128 Psi On Each Cylinder. Good Track, Shocks, No Dents In Skis, All Wheels Are Free Turning, And Has Extra Large Aftermarket Rack.
-never Got A Lot Of Use Last Year As It Was Late When I Bought It But, Idles At 1650-1700 Rpm, Engages At 3700-3800 Rpm, Seems To Shift At 6700-6800 Rpm And Tops Out At 103-105 On Speedo On Hard Packed. Sled Is Very Clean And Owner Says He Was Very Meticulous With It And Only Reason For Selling Is To Help Pay Off New Bike. I Think I Got A NICE Sled For $2200.00 Canadian...what Do You Guys Think? Will Gets Pics Posted Later.

my 600dx
hey guys i'm a little new to this but some feedback would be appreciated. in the fall i am getting her serviced such as flushing the cooling system and cleaning carbs and airbox filter and new plugs. other than this along with the compression being to specs for her age, i am not sure what to do except for greasing everything thoroughly and enjoy the ride. let me know if there is something i am forgetting
thank-you

Sounds like a nice clean sled, I would take a hard look at all of the Idler bearings and ecspecially the Jackshaft and driveshaft bearings. Replace them as needed and the rest sounds good.
Good luck with your new purchase and welcome to TY

Those were good dependable sleds. As for your numbers, I would say the full shift RPM is a little low. If you're not going to do any clutch work to improve performance at least put in a new primary spring to get full shift RPM back up. For the age of the sled I would look at all the clutch wear items and suspension shocks and pivot points(plastic bushings) at a minimum.

THE MACHINE IS STOCK AND I JUST WANT IT TO RUN AS CLOSE TO NEW AS POSSIBLE. THE CLUTH IS AMONGST THE THINGS THAT I AM GOING TO HAVE SERVICED IN THE FALL, AND THE SUSPENSION IN THE FRONT AND REAR ALL SEEM TO BE SOLID ENOUGH FROM WHAT I CAN TELL AND RIDES PRETTY GOOD WITH TWO PEOPLE AS WELL. THE PIVOT POINT BUSHINGS LOOK GOOD AND THE SPRINGS AND SHOCKS LOOK RELATIVELY NEW SO THEY MAY HAVE BEEN REPLACED SHORTLY BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. HE DID SAY WHAT WAS DONE TO IT AND HAS SERVICE RECORDS THAT I CAN OBTAIN IF REQUIRED FROM A LOCAL DEALER.
P.S.: WHAT SHOULD THE FULL SHIFT RPM BE FOR THIS SLED?
Here is a link from the TY Tech section for a 96 600 XT, According to the charts the 95 600 at full shift was 7650 and then was bumped to 8000 on the 96's.

Hey Guys Thanks For The Feedback.
I Just Realized That I Said The Shift Was At 6700-6800rpm. Must Have Been Asleep Or Thinking Of Something Else At The Time. She Actually Does Shift At 7600-7800 Rpm And Performance Doesn't Seem To Be Impaired In Any Way From The Couple Of Rides I Had Last Season. Even Enjoyed The Opportunity To Smoke A '91 Artic Cat Ext 580 (non Efi) Without Too Much Difficulty. Thanks Again For The Advice.
